Located minutes away from the Financial District in Toronto, Ontario, the Fermenting Cellar is a unique formal event venue that dates back to 1859. Boasting a rich history, the venue is located within a small village that is known as the Distillery Restaurants Corp. and sits among other unique venues. The Fermenting Cellar is an industrial-chic setting that can be transformed into whatever look a couple envisions for their special day. Heavy timber beams, trusses, and original Kingston limestone walls make this space a fun and striking alternative to the traditional wedding venue.
Facilities and capacity
The Fermenting Cellar is a beautiful 7,500-square-feet, fully air-conditioned, and heated venue. It features a 32-foot ceiling as well as floor heating. Both wedding ceremonies and receptions can be accommodated. Available space capacity includes:
The venue offers rentals including tables, chairs, linens, bar glassware and all place settings, one lounge set, and four white plexiglass bars. A basic sound and lighting package is also available, featuring full A/V capabilities. This banquet hall wedding venue also offers off-site catering services and event planning, and it accepts outside vendors. The wedding coordinator will get to know you on a personal level, building an understanding of your dream vision.
Soon-to-be newlyweds can avail of in-house catering from the head chef known as Justin Borg. He will work closely with you to curate your ideal menu, accommodating any specific dietary needs. Wedding packages include passed hors d' oeuvres, short plate stations, platters, food stations, late-night additions, and desserts. A la carte menu options are also available and require a minimum of three courses.

A Dream Downtown Venue
My husband and I got married at the Fermenting Cellar last June. We fell in love with the space immediately. Really amazing food and a unique space were high on our list of priorities for a wedding venue and we got both of those things at Fermenting Cellar!
Because the Fermenting Cellar is a large, raw space, you can really turn it into whatever you want. And, the Distillery District is such a charming destination - especially for my family and friends who traveled from the US for our wedding.
We worked with Chantal from Distillery Events on our wedding. She was responsive, organized and helpful throughout the process. The whole day of team was amazing - top notch service. We were so well taken care of.

The fermenting cellar hands down is iconic to Toronto and its history of this city. We fell in love with the space when we first walked in. Getting in touch with event co ordinator was easy and we had fast responses with inquiries. This venue also bookes up very quickly so please book early yes 1.5 to 2 years is not too much time in advance. This venue is a raw space pros and cons in this soley. The cost to decorate, be prepared to spend for everything from knives and forks to light and sound. The minimum food drink spend is 25k on a Saturday option. There will be taxes, service fees, venue fees, keep all this in mind when deciding on venue. We had an few issues on day of and although they were small it affected my overall satisfaction with the venue. The bartenders service was mediocre until my guests starting tipping ( this was requested by me not to be allowed at all in contract) this was when alcohol was poured with smiles. The food was good just what we expected from tasting. Overall my experience with venue was good, most of small issues really stem from day of service, nothing can be done to change this but we still had amazing time.Sent on 06/10/2017

My husband and I had a positive experience when we planned and held our wedding at the Fermenting Cellar this past June. We had originally booked the Boiler House as our venue, and was later advised that the Boiler House was to undergo renovations and that it would not be able to accommodate our wedding, so we had to change our venue to the Fermenting Cellar. In lieu of this setback, Sandra Torres had provided us with a substantial discount to make up for the inconvenience. Working with Sandra Torres while in Calgary was quite seamless; she was quick to respond, was professional, and provided me with all the information I needed - and more. She was attentive during our food tasting; so much so, that she had detected that my husband was not a fan of the dessert (but I was, so we went with that one... of course!) and we were pleasantly surprised to see that on our wedding day, everyone had the dessert I chose but him - he got the dessert he really wanted! Sandra had drafted a floor plan prior to the wedding which really helped us visualize the overall layout and significantly helped with the seating arrangement process. The venue was absolutely STUNNING! My guests were blown away as they are used to banquet halls for weddings and certainly not 'cellars' - so they were beyond impressed, and so were we. Because the grounds at the Distillery is so gorgeous, we didn't have to go anywhere else for our photos, which was very convenient. The on-site coordinator was attentive, was aware of our timelines and kept us on track for all of the events on the wedding day. We absolutely LOVED this venue! Everything about it was perfect, and it was reflected in our pictures. The catering staff was unbelievable - however they were almost too good and removed drinks and desserts too fast without our guests fully being finished. We also went through 3 different wedding coordinators through the venue, but all were wonderful and our dream wedding was executed beautifully.Sent on 20/08/2012
