Want to commune with Mother Nature on your big day? Alberta has got you covered. The province is peppered with amazing venues that boast stunning views of the Rockies and their surrounding forests. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect alpine escape for your “I dos”, these spots are worth looking into. Hint: if you want the perfect balance of city and nature, you may want to host your rehearsal dinner in Calgary. It has a ton of amazing restaurants to offer.

Here are my picks for the top mountain wedding venues in Alberta.

Fairmont Banff Springs (405 Spray Avenue, Banff)
Want to feel like royalty on your big day? That’s a trick question, of course you do. Tying the knot at a real castle should do the trick. The Fairmont Banff Springs, known as “Canada’s Castle in the Rockies”, is sure to give you the fairytale wedding of your dreams (move over, Cinderella). It has event rooms big and small and can host parties of up to 900 guests.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (111 Lake Louise Drive, Banff)
Fairmont has not one, but two castles tucked away in Banff. This chateau offers the stunning backdrop of Lake Louise and the Rockies, making it the perfect blend of nature and luxury. It has played host to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Queen Margrethe of Denmark and King Hussein and Queen Noor of Jordan - so it actually is fit for kings and queens. It can accommodate everything from elopements to grand affairs with north of 500 guests.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Buffalo Mountain Lodge (700 Tunnel Mountain Road, Banff)
Nestled among the pine trees of Banff National Park sits Buffalo Mountain Lodge, a wilderness wedding oasis. The resort has three ceremony-ready spaces to choose from: the Wapiti Longhouse (capacity of 99 guests), the Wainwright Room (capacity of 70 guests) and the Strathcona Room (capacity of 48 guests). Each event room is decked out with wood-heavy decor and high ceilings and can be outfitted to match your wedding’s colour scheme and vibe.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Rimrock Resort Hotel (300 Mountain Avenue, Banff)
If you want the elegance of a ballroom wedding and the views of a mountain venue, look no further than the Rimrock Resort Hotel. This Banff retreat offers couples the perfect blend of swanky accommodations and stunning vistas of snow covered peaks and forests abound. It has eight event rooms to choose from, including a chandelier-clad grand ballroom and outdoor terrace. The hotel can accommodate up to 400 guests (depending on which space you choose).

Banff Rocky Mountain Resort (1025 Banff Avenue, Banff)
With amazing views of Mount Rundle, Mount Cascade and Mount Tunnel, the Banff Rocky Mountain Resort is one of the best alpine escapes in the province. Its banquet rooms are equipped with floor to ceiling windows, so you’ll have a great view of the slopes while you exchange rings, dine and dance the night away. The capacity is 140, so you’ll want to be selective with your guest list.

Banff Rocky Mountain Resort

Deer Lodge (109 Lake Louise Drive, Banff)
Located in Banff National Park, Deer Lodge is a rustic lodge retreat where you and your guests can escape it all. The resort was built in 1923 as a teahouse and its original log structure still exists to this day (feel free to count this as your “something old”). Inside you’ll find two wedding worthy spaces, the interconnected Mt. Fairview Dining Room, Caribou Lounge and Gallery (which together can accommodate 120 guests) and the Lady Agnes Room (which can accommodate 18 guests). The lodge is located mere minutes from Lake Louise, so you can use its sparkling waters for a few photo-ops, too!

Deer Lodge

Castle Mountain Resort (Pincher Creek)
Head down to the Southwestern side of Alberta to Pincher Creek and you’ll find Castle Mountain Resort. The mountainside property offers amazing views of of snowy peaks, forests, lakes and more. Host your ceremony in the great outdoors and then bring things back to the base lodge for your reception (it has a capacity of 250 guests). Note: the resort is known for its amazing ski trails, so consider doing a little excursion with your wedding party pre- or post-wedding.

Castle Mountain Resort

Cornerstone Theatre (125 Kananaskis Way, Canmore)
Looking for the perfect mountain location to host your rustic chic wedding? The Cornerstone is the place to go. The cabin-style theatre flaunts wood-heavy decor, stone fireplaces and enough room for 200 guests. If you plan to exchange vows outdoors, there are three stunning locations up for grabs that can accommodate between 50 and 170 guests.

Cornerstone Theatre & Restaurant

Grande Rockies Resort (901 Mountain Street, Canmore)
If you hail from Calgary, the Grande Rockies Resort may be the mountain retreat you’re looking for. It’s a mere one hour drive from the city, making it easy for you and your entourage to get to. Couples can take advantage of the stunning mountain views and host their ceremony outdoors or use one of the hotel’s function rooms (making it easy to accommodate guest lists of any size). Bonus: this spot has a ton of amenities to woo your guests with, including a 3-storey water slide and an award-winning restaurant.

Grande Rockies Resort

Silvertip Resort (2000 Silvertip Trail, Canmore)
Located in the same area as the Grande Rockies Resort, the Silvertip is also a great option for Calgary residents. The property, which is perched on the side of the Bow Valley, boasts 600 sunny acres of grasslands, waters, mountain peaks and valleys. If you’d rather say your “i dos” indoors, there’s a banquet room with a capacity of 250 guests available.
