8 Wedding Planning Date Ideas

Don’t let the romance die while putting together the perfect wedding - turn planning evenings into date nights!

It’s easy to get caught up in all the frills and fun of wedding planning and forget what it’s all about. Instead of putting a hiatus on romance while you pick out centerpieces, stationery and party favours, why not turn those tasks into dates? It’s easy to make wedding planning less of a chore and more of an activity, so get your partner on board and get ready for some stellar nights out (or in).

Here are a few wedding planning date night ideas.

Have a wedding movie marathon
Need a little wedding inspiration? Spend a night cuddled up on the sofa watching all your favourite wedding themed flicks. No, they don’t all have to be rom-coms - even comedic classics like Bridesmaids can offer up a bit of wedding planning guidance (seriously, you’d be surprised!). Listen to their soundtracks, pay attention to their clothing and scope out the little things like place settings, centerpieces and venue decor.

DIY a few cocktails
Turn your kitchen into a cocktail haven for a night! Flex your creative muscles by crafting a few of your own mixes and giving tried and true blends your own twist. Who knows? Maybe you’ll pen the recipe for your reception’s signature drink. We suggest starting slow with easy combos and working your way up to more advanced beverages (you know, the kind that require a shaker and ten million tools?). If you ever get stuck, Pinterest is your best friend.

Learn to dance
It’s never to early to start prepping for your first dance. Make it a night out and go get some tips from the pros at a local studio - you can learn a lot in just one class. If you’d rather do your dips, twirls and promenades in the comfort of your own home, create a Spotify playlist of romantic love songs - we’ve got plenty ;) - and waltz around your own living room. You can always turn to YouTube for pointers.

Go to a show
You’re going to need to book a band or DJ at some point, so why not use date night to scope out the local talent. Check your local listings to see who’s playing where and maybe do a little bit of bar hopping and wedding planning at the same time.

Take a bouquet making class
Plenty of floral studios offer courses that’ll teach you everything you need to know about flowers and how to craft the perfect arrangement. Not only will you walk away with some pretty bunches of blooms for your home, but you’ll also get to see how florists work first hand.

Go on a venue scoping adventure
Don’t know what type of wedding venue to go for? Understandable, there are so many to choose from. Instead of staying in and surfing the web, head out on the town to look at places IRL. Hit museums, historical homes, art galleries and more. Remember to take notes on your phone, even if you don’t find “the one” while you’re out, you may get a clearer vision of what you’re into.

Make your favours
If you’re not ordering crafts or candles from a vendor for your wedding favours, spend a night making them with your S.O. Baked goods are a fan favourite for favours, so consider spending an evening whipping up a few batches of cookies and frosting them together. You can hand off the more tedious jobs, like packaging them up, to your wedding party.

Dine out
Hitting a restaurant is pretty standard date night fare, but choose your eatery wisely for this one. Pick a place that offers catering or has a private event space for rehearsal dinners to get a few ideas. Don’t forget to pay attention to what’s on the menu, you’ll want to serve up some top notch dishes on your big day.
