Having a hard time interviewing potential photographers because you do not know what style is a right fit for you and your fiancé(e)? Discuss the definitions below.

Here are three wedding photography styles.

Photojournalism/Documentary

This typically works in black and white. A photographer will document the day from beginning to end as it unfolds.

Traditional/Classic

This typically works in black and white as well as color. A photographer will focus on formal portraits and major moments only. (i.e. first look, processional, first kiss, recessional, first dance, father-daughter dance, mother-son dance, cake cutting, etc.)

Fine Art

This typically works in color. A photographer will artistically approach specific shots. Tip: Hire a photographer that offers photojournalism/documentary or traditional/classic in addition to this technique.

It is also important to note how many photos a photographer has in a portfolio. Be sure to look at their blog too! This should hint towards which photos they prefer most. Another aspect is the price! Depending on what amount you have allotted in your budget, you should expect to expense about 10 percent towards your photographer. However, ensure that the package includes the coverage you want: ~8-12 hours, engagement session, digital or film proofs, photo album, USB drive, etc.
