Your wedding ceremony should do more than sound beautiful. It should reveal something true about who you are together. That is the difference between a ceremony that is "personalized" and one that is deeply personal.

Every ceremony is different because every relationship is different.

When I begin working with a couple as their wedding officiant, I listen for the things that sit underneath the obvious details. My work is to notice those things, find the heart of your story, and give it language.

The result is not a template with your names inserted. It is a ceremony thoughtfully shaped around the two of you, with enough warmth, meaning, humour, tradition, faith or simplicity to feel completely "you".

I sometimes tell couples that although I may only have a limited amount of time to get to know them before the wedding, I want their guests to leave the ceremony feeling as though I had known them for years.

I want there to be moments when you look at one another and smile because you know exactly what I mean. Moments when your family and friends laugh because they know it too. And moments when the significance of what you are promising one another has enough space to really land.

Because the ceremony is only the beginning.

After more than two decades of working with couples, I have learned that a strong marriage is not built in a single moment. It is built over time, in the ways two people keep choosing one another through change, joy, disappointment, ordinary days, unexpected seasons and all the things neither of you can possibly know yet.

That is part of why the ceremony matters so much to me. Amid all the excitement of a wedding day, it gives you a rare opportunity to stop, take in where you are, and name out loud what this relationship means to you now, and what you are choosing to carry forward, together.

And every couple brings something uniquely "theirs" to that sacred moment.

Based in Madoc, Ontario, and serving Hastings County, Prince Edward County, Quinte and surrounding communities, as well as the Greater Toronto Area, I have had the privilege of creating deeply personal wedding ceremonies for couples including Christian and Jewish weddings, interfaith celebrations, blended families, vow renewals, intimate weddings and elopements.

Years from now, I do not want you to remember only that your ceremony was beautiful.

I want you to remember how it felt to stand there, surrounded by the people you love, hearing your own story reflected back to you and feeling the meaning of the promises you were making.

MEET TRACY

Tracy B. Richards has been creating and officiating wedding ceremonies across Ontario since 2015.

She is an ordained Marketplace Minister, licensed to solemnize marriages in Ontario, with more than 25 years of experience in counselling and psychotherapy. Today, Tracy also coaches and mentors individuals and couples, bringing that understanding of relationships into the way she supports couples as they prepare for marriage.

That background has given her a deep appreciation for the significance of the promises couples make on their wedding day and for the relationship that continues long after the celebration itself.

Over the years, Tracy has officiated hundreds of ceremonies in settings ranging from elegant venues and family properties to gardens, lakesides and even a snowy mountaintop at sunrise.

She has worked with couples from many backgrounds and traditions and is especially known for ceremonies that feel warm, natural, meaningful and true to the people standing in front of her.

Tracy has also been recognized by Post City in Toronto’s Best Weddings & Parties, Best Officiant category.
