    Beautiful space, awful service

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Windsor Arms Hotel, we chose this venue because of the beautiful character of the space, it's luxurious details, and the overall ambiance. Little did we know that while our wedding was enchanting, the whole experience was marred by the awful service of their staff. The catering staff day-of were fine enough. However, the entire during of the planning leading up to the wedding day was filled with roadblocks and disagreements/miscommunications. They up-sold a lot of perks up front like saying that we would have access to two suites from the start of the wedding day for getting ready and storing our things, but later they said 'no we did not say that'. Our package included 7 hours of open bar time and we wanted to move it up by one hour, but they wouldn't let us so we ended up with just 6 hours of bar service. They promised the bar service would not be slow, but they only provided 1 bar tender for a 100+ person wedding. They said our guests could have 20% off room bookings, but later said this was only for the more expensive rooms not the basic rooms. Just one after another of misleading things that they promised us up front but never delivered, and when we raised these concerns the hotel manager was not accommodating whatsoever. They also treated our vendors poorly, when they got the wrong meals they said "this is what you get". All in all, beware, they paint a rosy picture here but it's like pulling teeth to get anything from them - I'd stay away if you can, but if you really want to book this venue for the look BE WARNED, and ask for EVERYTHING to be written into the contract!

Incredible venue, delicious food, indispensable service

I'll be honest, I'm a cynical guy. I expected a lot of hard work, conflicts, and stress to come my way throughout the wedding planning process.

The exact opposite happened. My wedding experience, including the planning, turned out to be wonderful, in large part thanks to the Windsor Arms Hotel.

My wedding went off without a single hitch. The space is gorgeous, classy, and filled to the brim with luxury. We had a small wedding with only 30 guests but the normally 150-person capacity Courtyard Ballroom was arranged into a beautiful and intimate space. The customized menu was exquisite and the desserts divine. The staff was extremely courteous and accommodating. All our guests' needs were catered to. We very much appreciated having the Sultan Room for hair/makeup and the adjoining Sultan Suite for few moments of respite.

For me, the critical feature of our Windsor Arms Hotel wedding was our coordinator Mateus. He was clear, professional, and accommodating from our very first meeting through to the follow up emails weeks after our wedding, Mateus took care of every detail big or small. He arranged the space according to our needs, coordinated our menu with the chef, and even accommodated a last minute request to move a piano into the ballroom. Mateus helped us navigate the health guidelines for our wedding (Fall 2020) and helped us give our guests a safe and enjoyable experience. All this coordination and planning was done in a three week period. I'm still awestruck that we were able to pull off a wedding in downtown Toronto within such a short time frame and with so little stress. We couldn't have done it without Mateus. A Windsor Arms Hotel wedding is truly an all-inclusive experience. Mateus made sure of that.

So I didn't experience any of the stress I expected. Instead, I had a wonderful time, even in the planning phase. Thank you Mateus and the Windsor Arms Hotel.

    Beautiful Venue but Poor Service

The Windsor Arms is truly one of the most beautiful spots in Toronto. It’s regal decor is unlike anything I have ever seen and I knew I wanted to get married there within the first few minutes of our tour.

My wedding was the best day of my life. The Windsor Arm’s food is delicious, our wedding suite was beautiful and the entire evening moved very smoothly. In our suite, The Windsor Arms treated us with champagne, desserts I recognized from their high tea menu and a personal note hand-written by our account rep.

However, working with the Windsor Arms was stressful in the month leading up to our wedding - there were a number of miscommunications and misunderstandings with the Windsor Arms which resulted in heated conversations and ultimately, additional fees that I wish we were informed about sooner. Additionally, I met with the venue owner in person 10 days before our wedding. He was rude, critical of the requests my wedding coordinator had made and brushed aside my concerns. I left the meeting in tears feeling disrespected and bullied.

Ultimately, everything worked. However, the short comings of the client service cannot go unmentioned.

    Windsor Arms Hotel's reply:

    Dear Elle,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It was heartwarming to hear your comments about our venue and the culinary experience we provided. I’m delighted that we were able to be part of making your wedding “the best day of your life” - absolutely, and on behalf of my team, that was our intention, so I’m thrilled that we’ve succeeded there. And thank you again for allowing us the opportunity to be your venue of choice for this, once in a lifetime, occasion.

With regards to your comment about the stressful month that preceded this special day, please allow me to apologize and perhaps as well, offer some context. At your request, I was very happy to meet with you and to try and assist to the best of my abilities with your last minute additional requests. As you know, it was our aim to provide the exact experience you had envisioned, regardless of when all and any requests were received. Unfortunately, these last minute requests came at a cost that we had to incur and thus it was necessary that we ask that you assist, at least partially, in offsetting our additional expense in order to realize your ultimate vision for your wedding. I appreciate your understanding in this matter. And once again, I am so happy to hear the evening turned out beautifully. And thank you for your words of gratitude regarding the Champagne and desserts that we provided for you to enjoy in your suite. Again, it is always our goal to tend to all and every detail in order to make dreams come true at the Windsor Arms.

I hope you’ll continue to celebrate life’s great milestones with us. It would be our pleasure to be of service to you again in the future.

Please accept my warmest congratulations and I wish you and Louis a lifetime of happiness together.

    Yours truly,
    George Friedmann

    Treated like Royalty

We had our dream wedding at the Windsor Arms just over a week ago. We were a little anxious at the get-go about the negative reviews but a friend of a friend had her wedding here last year and assured us that their experience could not have been more positive. I’m so glad we didn’t pay attention to what we saw online - the space is gorgeous, the food fantastic, and Kelly, the new coordinator clearly knows her stuff. She was very accommodating with the menu and quite obviously wanted us to be happy. We had two private tastings and she worked closely with our planner to make sure all details were taken care of. You do pay a premium for this space but all costs are made known upfront, and for the feeling of old Victorian luxury and the prime Toronto location, it is absolutely to be expected. My bridal party was provided with a gorgeous room to get ready in and having the bridal suite right on site was a huge perk. The Courtyard Cafe (main ballroom), which was stunning before, has even been recently renovated and refreshed (Spring 2018) which was an unexpected and delightful surprise. Our huge thanks to Kelly and Ben for making sure we were so completely taken care of and that each of our guests had an incredible experience.

    Windsor Arms Hotel's reply:

    Dearest Kate and Shahan.
We are so happy to we could help you and your family create those wonderful memories and we hope to see you back at the hotel soon. Wishing you both all the best and a lifetime of happiness and success.

I am so happy we decided to book our wedding at the Windsor Arms Hotel. We were looking for a venue that was more unique and cozy than a banquet hall, and Windsor Arms definitely has that vintage charm! We received so many compliments on our venue of choice because of the sheer beauty of the venue. The aesthetics was a huge deciding factor, and the fact that they have an in-house kosher kitchen.

I loved the fact that George, the owner, worked with us along the way, and made the time to meet with us and the catering manager (Sharon). Made us feel like VIP patrons throughout. I read other reviews online prior to booking this venue, and I have to give George credit—he may be “rough around the edges” (mind you, so am I), but we brought some of the bad reviews online (which you’ll always find) and asked him to address the issues, and he was very straight forward and open about it, and made us feel assured that we would not experience any issues. Everything is laid out in your contract, and he allowed me to personalize aspects of the contract to better suit our needs. That was one of the elements that I appreciated most, the fact that everything was customized to our requirements.

Sharon went above and beyond to address every concern we had, and met with us on multiple occasions throughout the year we were planning. Right down to making sure the size of the strawberries on the plated dessert were proportional. This attention to detail was amazing! We also got a lot of compliments on the food!

For me, one of the best parts about the wedding venue was that they really let us have the run of the hotel on our day. We had a rather large wedding for the venue (180 people), and our guests were all over—in the restaurant, in the bar, upstairs, in the main hall….and they did not give us a hard time at all. In fact, they even allowed us to take some wedding photos in the restaurant, which we really appreciated. The wedding suite is gorgeous, and they let us check out the next day very late in the afternoon. All in all, we felt like royalty.

For the cons, there aren’t many. First, while we knew this when booking the venue, the venue is really much better for weddings under 150 people (seated dinner with dance floor). It got pretty crowded during cocktail hour, which also lasted a little longer than I would have preferred (though not sure if this was the venue’s fault or my other vendors). So I would say just be prepared for 2 hours of cocktails and get extra hors d’oeuvres. The other thing to note is that this is not a cheap venue….if you are looking for a budget venue, this is not an option. We didn’t do flowers or fancy décor, or super expensive wedding dress, etc. We chose to allocate majority of our budget to the venue because it was so important to us. So be prepared to pay a premium for a historical landmark 5-star venue. Parking is only valet, so we did not cover this for our guests (we also had open bar and didn’t want people driving anyway).

All in all, we are very happy with our choice, and we really felt special on our day. The food was great, the venue looked amazing, and working with Sharon was such a pleasure. We look forward to staying at the hotel in the future, and reliving our memories!

    Beautiful venue, excellent staff

We are so thrilled with our choice. Everything ran smoothly on the day. The Courtyard for the ceremony/reception and the Gatsby for cocktail hour/after party were a perfect fit for our event and made for beautiful backdrops for our photos. The food was a highlight, everything was delicious. On the business side, Luba and Mateus were great to work with, very attentive and organized. They were flexible when we were forced to change our date because of the pandemic. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a wonderful experience!

A beautiful, unique and intimate venue for small-mid size weddings

The Windsor Arms is one of the most special venues in Toronto. It is incredibly unique with its charming lobby, beautiful bar and ornate ballroom.

Day-of, Jason and his events team run a tight ship, ensuring all food comes out on time, wine glasses were never empty and guests are always comfortable.

In terms of planning, one of the best benefits of working with WA is the customization and personalization they will allow. We were able to bring in our own champagne, tailor the menu to be served Italian style (pasta/primi, salad and then secondi/main), and opt for petit-fours instead of plated desserts without having to totally break the bank. If you can, definitely upgrade to the fillet steak. It's deliciously cooked and each of our guests loved it.

WA also has beautiful rooms which can be used for photographs, including one which connects to the Bridal Suite's living room, so that family members or Bridal party members can wait comfortably.

We were 190 guests in the Courtyard (i.e. Ballroom) with a 15x18 dancefloor. The room was packed - mostly round tables of 10, with a King's table for us - and the dancefloor was always full. If you expect your guests to dance, and are planning to have a band (we had 9 pieces and DJ) 190 is as full as I'd go. That said, the King's Table and band take up space, so you certainly can seat more if you have a different configuration.

We are really glad we chose the Windsor Arms for our wedding and know that our guests really enjoyed themselves. Thank you to Jason and George for their hard work.

    Jaw dropping wedding

We hosted our wedding at the Windsor Arms and had an unforgettable evening. During the planning stages, the catering and event team headed by Kelly at the Windsor Arms went above and beyond. Kelly put my mind at ease by sitting with me during the planning stages and mapping out the finest of details. Our guests were blown away by the beautiful space. During the ceremony in the Courtyard Cafe, the light filtered in through the tall skylights, and the chandelier, ceiling and art work added lovely ambience. We hosted our cocktail hour in the Gatsby bar which all guests loved and could not stop raving about. Next for the reception, the team had transformed the courtyard cafe into my vision of a romantic, flower and candle filled space. The lighting adds drama and warmth to the space and is truly beautiful. Our food was delicious and the catering team was able to accommodate dietary restrictions of some of our guests. It is a beautiful, hidden gem to host a wedding and I would recommend it.

    Windsor Arms Hotel's reply:

Art Deco Weddding at The Windsor Arms

We were absolutely thrilled with everything the WA did for us on our wedding day. The Banquet Manager took over once we arrived and really acted like a wedding planner for us as we did not have one. The guests raved about everything from the ambience to the food,to the service . It was great. This was a second wedding for the both of us and we had no complaints.

    Windsor Arms Hotel's reply:

    Dear Annette and Steve
Thank you so much for giving The Windsor Arms Hotel the opportunity to host your wedding in May. We are delighted that the day went as planned and that both you and your guests had a wonderful time. We hope to see you back at the hotel some time soon. Wishing you both all the best!
