    Wedding Opener

We got married August 4, 2018 at the Pie Eyed monk to celebrate 10 years together. The experience was amazing! People were skeptic as I was planning my wedding there for 15 months prior to it opening, but Aaron and his crew made it happen. Right down to painting the stairway hall the night before the wedding so the guests had a pleasant experience as soon as they walked in the door (a week prior to the restaurant opening). They aimed to please. There were some slight issues with communication in the planning of the event, however, once Chelsea was hired on as events co-coordinator, all that changed and it became a really positive experience. She worked with us and all our needs and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the day, and ensured our vendors were also happy throughout the night as well.
Now, I couldn't do this review without mentioning the food. It was AMAZING! Everything from our cocktail hour pizzas, to the vegan mushroom soup, and both the beef and chicken options were delicious for the main course that we had served family style. My absolute favorite part though was the late night platters. The meat tray was absolutely to die for! And as a bride that didn't have time to eat to much during the busy social hours, it was my favorite part of the evening, when that came out. Its always a topic of conversation with guests as well. Everyone really enjoyed it. Ill post some photos below so you can check out the beauty of the building, and the light from the beautiful windows that you get to work with, and decorating the space was great, as the natural beauty of the tables and finishings was easy to work with.
Some other vendors that we worked with to complete the day was Dynamic Music Solutions and Photo booth to keep everyone on their feet dancing all night, and the photobooth for a good laugh to look back on. Emma-Lee Art and Photography for our beautiful photography, and Erin's Little Bake Shop for the amazing buttertarts to accompany my moms home made pies for dessert. Last but not least Kawartha Herb Garden for the great spices we did up as favors for all of the guests to enjoy.

FANTASTIC Venue, would (and have several times) recommend to anyone!

We went to the Pie Eyed Monk as the very last venue in town to check out, because we assumed that as a restaurant/pub they would not have a lot of space for guests, that it may look "pubby" and, frankly, the prices on wedding wire scared us and our small town budget.

However, as soon as we arrived and saw the venue upstairs, we were blown away. The space is gorgeous and also the perfect canvas for any wedding no matter your theme or decor.
The room upstairs is huge and open and can be arranged in any formation you would want. It can easily switch from elegant to casual with a few waves of a wand. In reality, it was NOT more expensive than the other venues that we looked at. The general manager Erastus made our budget work with our needs, and was so professional and accountable. We also saved a TON of money and headache going with the PEM because they already has so much on-site that you can use. They have decorations like candle votives for centrepieces, wood chunks for serving and twinkle lights dawning the ceiling, and all sorts of decoration options depending on the season (but you are also allowed to bring in decor, we only brought a few flowers). We also saved on music because there is a DJ booth with all of the equipment already hooked up with a spotify playlist that we used. You cannot hear any activity at all from the restaurant downstairs during speeches or other quiet activities.

Being a restaurant that supports local farmers, the food was fantastic. The chef prepared for us a custom menu with several courses and we continue to frequent the PEM for dinner. To put it short: Even the most particular of our very Italian family commented the food was amazing.

Most importantly, Erastus worked with us for our needs, and made our wedding special and our own. He did not assume what we wanted or did not want based on what was fashionable. When our wedding took several turns for the worst (this is an October 2020 wedding here... in the middle of a pandemic) they restaurant was able to downsize our guest count and our budget last minute, and was able to separate the tables for "social distancing" but suggested we keep them in a circle in a way that was elegant and made the room feel full. Despite that fact that we had our wedding reception at PEM during a pandemic, we would not change a thing, and so much of our positive memories will be thanks to the staff at the PEM.

I am a bit late writing this review, but now in February, I have already made 3 successful referrals to the PEM for events: My Maid of Honor's wedding reception, my managers retirement party, and a church fundraising dinner-from-home (during lockdown). Several people from each of these events have commented how fantastic the food and/or venue was for their celebration.

If you are considering the PEM for your wedding venue - just make the call. Tell them what you want and see what they can do for you. You will not regret it!
