    Great place for your event

    I hosted a party there this weekend. Nadia was so easy to work with and responded to all my inquiries promptly. The food and decor was great. My guests loved it. I highly recommend Red Spoon Restaurant

    A disastrous wedding reception

    We held our wedding reception here back in September of 2019. We chose this location on account of the size (our party was a smaller one), the size of our budget, the menu choices available and other choices that were made available to us.

    When the big day arrived, we thought we had everything covered and looked after. Unfortunately, disaster struck and due to an ill-timed accident, the gas for the entire area was shut off, and this caused a big problem for the Red Spoon. More about this later.

    The hall was decorated as promised, we were allowed to come a few minutes early to add some last-minute decorations of our own and this was appreciated.

    Due to the Red Spoon's liquor license, we were able to contain costs by supplying our own wine for a reasonable corkage fee. For us, this was a good option and on top of this, the Red Spoon offered unlimited soft drinks for a reasonable fee, and this was utilized by our under-aged and non-drinking guests.

    When my wife and I arrived, we were completely dismayed to learn that our guests, who had arrived ahead of us, had not been served a single thing...not even water, because the bill had not been fully paid in advance. Perhaps this was mentioned to us or disclosed in the contract we signed, and if this was so, there was absolutely NO follow up by the Red Spoon for payment to avoid this situation.

    Soon after we paid our bill, we were informed that the restaurant was without gas and that it was impossible to cook the dinner for which we had just paid. Nadia, our host, was very sorry for this disastrous turn of events and was constantly on the phone with the gas company. She told us that she was hopeful that gas would be restored soon, so we chose to work with her. Unfortunately, there was absolutely NO back up plan in place. We asked about ordering pizza and we were informed by Nadia that nothing around the restaurant was open. She was also unwilling to take any kind of steps to rectify this situation, and we were reminded several times that she was not making much money from our event. After several hours of holding our guests without dinner, my wife and I decided to order pizza from a large chain, who happily delivered to the restaurant.

    At the end of the evening, our Nadia told us that she was unwilling to pay for the pizza we ordered because in her opinion, we ordered too much. She did contribute a portion of the cost of the pizza and she did credit us for items we did not use.

    Nobody can really predict that a massive gas outage can occur and it truly was unfortunate that this happened when it did. But in the hospitality business, it has been my experience that the host does everything possible to make the guest feel looked after. We felt that we were the ones fighting for our guests and if it wasn't for the steps we took, our guests would have left with only eaten hors d'oeuvres and wine.

    So unfortunately for the Red Spoon, we will not return and we will not recommend this establishment. We do believe that Nadia was sympathetic, the gas outage was totally not her fault, she honoured her financial commitments but she certainly did not look after our guests.

    Sorry again it happened to you and to us and it was an accident beyond our control. More that 300 establishments were affected for a few days due to broken gas supply. I guess you can file a complain to Enbridge.

    In terms of serving drinks - we have filled in the fridge in the dining area with water, pop, juices and all was available for your guests when they arrived.

    Your guests have arrived at 6pm and the server was booked from 7pm - you advised that someone from your team will be helping your guests from 6pm to 7pm with appetizers and drinks, so we thought that your guests were looked after.

    We do require the payment of outstanding balance before the guests would arrive and it was clearly stated in our confirmation letter as well as in the final communication. And we do not serve alcohol when it is not paid off.

    We indeed did our best to set the venue nicely for you and gave you a few complimentary items. We also tried many times to get help from Enbridge to restore gas supply. This never happened to us before and it was very stressful situation as we care about our guests.

    In terms of the food - even though we did not have to, as it was not our fault, but we had covered almost half of your pizza bill With all discounts that we gave you, expensive food costs and extended time for the stuff waiting and hoping that we could finish the cooking, it was really not much we could offer but we did to help you out.
    Luckily - we had a lot of appetizers ready for your guests and they could enjoy some food. You took all the food that we have prepared for you for main dishes home and I hope could share with some of your guests next days.

    It is really sad getting this review from you after we tried so hard to rectify the situation.

    The red spoon was a perfect fit for our wedding! Nadia was very flexible and easy to work with! The food was amazing and the price was great and reasonable! The space was a bit tight for our dinner but after dinner with a slight rearrangment of tabels it was more then enough room to accomodate us! I would reccomend the red spoon to anyone!

    We are having my bridal shower at this venue! The owners are such nice people. They catered to all of our needs! It's the perfect spot for a shower of any kind!
