    Wedding reception

Due to Covid we switched our reception location three months prior to our wedding date to accommodate an outdoor reception. We booked with the Cornerstone using their weekend package. The space is beautiful for for a moderately size tented reception. However, there were some flaws in communication that did throw us curveballs last minute and impact our special day.
For us there were a few discrepancies between what we were told in person while looking at the venue vs what was said later on. The contract we were given did not reflect the information we were told by the owners and in fact did not even state anything about the time we needed to be off the property the night of our wedding. When we first did a walk through of the venue we asked what time we had to be out of the venue and we were told “the music had to be turned down at midnight”. About 2 weeks before our wedding we were then told we had to turn down the music by 11pm and had to be out of the venue by midnight because they had to close the gates at 1am. We were extremely disappointed in hearing this and there was nothing of the sort written in the contract. We were able to negotiate a bit of a later end time (1245, but gates still closed at 1am). None of our guests were ready to leave at 1245 and we even had a few people offer to pay more so that we could stay later but they wouldn’t allow it. We can understand and appreciate every venues rules but had this been communicated properly to us from the beginning, we very well may have decided to book somewhere that allowed us to extend our special evening a bit more. The owner is very kind but again, lack of communication with us lead to the grass being watered right before the rental company came to install our tent and made it very difficult for them to set up.
In the end our wedding was still beautiful but it was very stressful communicating with the owner and we felt there were a lot of unexpected and unnecessary surprises that could have been avoided. With it being a newer wedding venue it may be that they need to get a few things ironed out but it wasn’t an entirely smooth process for us.

The Cornerstone Event & Retreat Venue's reply:

    Lauren and Justin,
I understand your concern and I apologize for the error on our part for the early shut down of music.  That was a communication error on our end. To lose music time is unfortunate and I sincerely wish I could remedy that for you.  We have made clear statements to staff, vendors and our contracts regarding event hours, but I am sorry that your wedding was cut short.  I will call you personally so that we can hopefully iron out that matter.  My very sincere apologies for the error on our end.    With regard to the tent, I was under the impression that you were aware that there might be an issue placing it in front of the house.   It was brought to our attention several days in advance that the equipment for installing the poles might not fit.  We had literally just begun to water the grass when the tent company arrived.  And honestly I would have done whatever it took to dry the top surface of the grass if the equipment would have fit. I turned the sprinkler off immediately.  They did the remeasure and the space did not accommodate the installation equipment.  This is something that is verifiable.  But again, when the possibility was brought to my attention I should have contacted you directly to verify.  As you know, our staff works diligently to assist and cater to customers, and to maintain an impeccable venue that is safe, clean, comfortable and beautiful.  I understand that does not rectify the music issue and that is likely and understandably the significant issue.  I am so very sorry for the time reduction, and we have made certain that no such error is ever repeated.  Again, I will contact you in order to make amends.  We wish you every good fortune in your marriage and thank you for your patronage.
