I visited this boutique twice in September 2024 to try on dresses and ultimately purchased the Godiva gown after working with Kaitlyn.

Unfortunately, both visits were disappointing. At the beginning of my first appointment, my mom, sister, and I were greeted with an unprompted and uncomfortable “expectation-setting” speech from the associate, Kaitlyn. She told us things like “you’re not going to find your dream dress” and “you’re not going to have that moment you see on TV.” It immediately set an awkward tone, and her attitude throughout both visits continued to feel curt and unwelcoming.

During our appointment, there was also a crying infant running around the very small boutique space. It appeared to be an employee’s child, and the constant noise and chaos were extremely distracting. Given how tight and crowded the space already is, it felt unprofessional and took away from the overall experience.

I had traveled a long distance specifically to try on the Godiva dress, but the experience was so uncomfortable that I seriously tried to find the gown elsewhere. The only other retailer that carried it was in Vancouver, so I reluctantly returned despite not wanting to give this boutique my business.

Communication with the store was also extremely difficult. Their website notes that they are “by appointment only” and do not list set business hours, so when I tried calling multiple times, no one ever answered. This made the process even more frustrating on top of the already poor in-person experience.

After visiting many bridal shops, I knew that choosing a dress is usually treated as a special moment. Here, there was no celebration, no acknowledgment—nothing. After I said I wanted the dress, the associate actually walked away, leaving my family and me unsure of what to do next. We eventually had to approach the desk ourselves to ask how to proceed with ordering and payment. It was disheartening and felt like they had no interest in making the moment memorable.

We placed the order and paid in the installments they required. When I had questions about the invoice, several of my emails went unanswered, and when I finally did receive replies, they were dismissive and condescending. It felt like their focus was more on their social media and fashion events than on actual clients.

The dress arrived at the very end of the promised timeline—and when it did, it was the wrong version. I had specifically ordered the gown without a train, but what arrived had the longest train possible. As a very petite person, this was a costly and inconvenient mistake to fix through alterations.

Overall, I would not recommend this boutique. My experience was marked by rudeness, unprofessionalism, poor communication, and a lack of care for clients during what should be a meaningful and exciting process.

They always made my feel comfortable, let me try on everything I wanted and there were quite a few since they had such a beautiful and wide range of in-fashion designer wedding dresses, they let me come in multiple times to make sure I had enough time to think about the right dress and guided me through the process, and never rushed the process for me.
I found the perfect Jane Hill dress and it was actually the one that they picked for me. It was absolutely beautiful. Last week on my wedding day, I kept getting countless compliments on how gorgeous the dress is and how it is so me. My husband was stunned with the dress and was so happy with how it turned out.
The location is in Bowmanville and people may think it’s far, but to be honest it’s absolutely worth the drive. Their selection, service and everything in between beats Toronto stores any day of the week. I’m so glad I found them i recommend Joy bridal to my friends and family all the time.
