The remarkable Dominion Bank Building is the home to the amazing venue, Teatro Ristorante. This building was originally built in 1911. Teatro is the Italian word for “theatre” and the venue is located on Olympic Plaza in Calgary's downtown theatre district. The venue has an award-winning wine cellar that brings back the taste of Italy and Bordeaux. The venue is around 19 km from the Calgary International Airport. It takes 20 minutes to reach there from Willow Park.

Facilities and capacity

Both private and semi-private dining options are available. Teatro Ristorante can easily accommodate parties of two to more than 250 guests. The event spaces here include the Main Dining Room and The Opera Room. The Main Dining Room can easily seat 110 guests and accommodate around 250 guests for a cocktail reception. The Dining Room has 22-foot high ceilings and boasts classy and elegant interiors. With beautiful 18-foot high ceilings, The Opera Room is ideal for private events for 50 people seated or up to 100 people cocktail style. It has its own entrance and is separate from the main dining room. The Opera Room has rich wall tapestry accents with Italian marble throughout the room.

Services offered

In house Wedding Planner included! Their experienced Event Manager is versed in wedding planning and can help you with all your event planning details. Additional services for event design including decor rentals, florals, DJ services and more! Red carpet and stanchions are both available along with projectors and six foot screens. Event rentals such as glassware, flatware, tables, and linens are also provided. Ice sculptures can also be provided if you wish. Other wedding-related events such as bridal showers and engagement parties is also served by the venue. It can be your one stop shop for all of your wedding planning!

Cuisine

The venue serves Contemporary Mediterranean Cuisine that is strongly rooted in the Italian tradition. The ingredients used in the meals here are mostly sourced from local and organic producers. The bread and pastries here are baked fresh daily in the in-house bakery. The wine cellar here has up to 10,000 bottles along with 800 labels.

Fantastic food, great wine, amazing ambiance

We got married here and LOVED it. Suzanne and the staff took great care to arrange everything beautifully, the food and drink were fantastic, and the space was so nice. Everything went even better than we had hoped. I would very highly recommend it to anyone considering a wedding venue. The main room is beautiful for a ceremony, the opera room makes for a great cocktail hour while they're preparing the room for dinner, and then of course you get to enjoy one of Calgary's top restaurants for food (and dancing!), with an amazing selection in the cellar. Suzanne was very attentive and helpful with sorting out details and coordinating with vendors and rentals, which made things much easier. 100% recommend.

Opera Room; best site for wedding reception!

We had our wedding reception at Teatro in the Opera room, with around 50 guests and it was perfect! The staff was very friendly, the food amazing, we were allowed to have a DJ and used the TV hidden behind the big picture frame to show a surprise video from friends and family who couldn't attend the wedding. The food and beverage minimum spend was also very reasonable compared to a lot of others restaurant/reception venues who would charge you how much they normally would make in a day if they didn't have to close for your event. 10/10 would recommend Teatro for any type of events, we are going back again for another friend's wedding in a week!

Our New Year's Eve Wedding

Our experience with Teatro Group Weddings was amazing! We hosted an intimate and private dinner in the Opera Room and then a cocktail reception with canapés at Royale. The teams at both locations were extremely easy to work with and made our wedding planning a breeze. I can't say enough about the food and beverage options as well, as someone who doesn't eat meat or fish we are offered custom canapés at Royale to suit these needs. We even had a custom cocktail created for both my husband and myself for our reception. Brittany and Carrie made planning very easy and were very helpful when it came to making sure our day went smoothly. We cannot say enough about Royale as a location as well as the staff. The recent renovations have made the space even more beautiful than before. Minimal decorating was needed due to the abundance of flowers and candles already there. Our guests said they had a fabulous time and enjoyed the food and drinks very much. It was super special to ring in the new year as newlyweds with our closest friends and family with us, such a fun party!!!

Wedding Review

Choosing Teatro as our Wedding venue seemed like a no brainer, as we already knew the space was beautiful, the food delicious and the service impeccable. But even knowing all of this we could never have imagined how incredible our experience would be planning our wedding at Teatro.

The event coordinator, Brittany Rondeau, was a complete dream to work with! She took our vision and turned into a beautiful reality. She was flexible, accommodating and such a calming presence during the mayhem of wedding planning. She was organized, professional and seemed genuinely excited to help us to plan everything, always trying to find the best for us while staying within our budget and sticking to our vision.

On the day of our wedding everything went off without a hitch! We had so many guests tell us that the food was incredible, that the Teatro staff were amazing, always there to refill a drink and make the overall experience better and that it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. We didn’t have to think about anything except having a good time. Our wedding day was the best day of our lives and Teatro helped to make that happen!!

Gorgeous Venue

We held our small (20 guest) wedding in the private Opera Room at Teatro restaurant. The space was gorgeous, the food was amazing! The serving staff were wonderfully attentive.

Teatro Opera Room - Amazing Venue and Excellent Service

Brittany and the staff at Teatro went above and beyond our expectations to make our wedding day special. The Opera Room was a wonderful, intimate setting for a smaller wedding and we were able to have both the ceremony and reception in the space. We were admittedly not the most organized couple leading up to the day, but they turned our limited instructions and a few boxes of decorations and flowers into something amazing.

The food was great and the staff made sure the wine glasses were always full! The food portions for the plated dinners were not the biggest (we did a 3 course), but that was easily made up for in quality and presentation. For bigger appetites, you may want to add a course, do a buffet, or have a few additional appetizers.

Overall a truly great experience and we highly recommend Teatro!

We held our NYE wedding and reception at Teatro, and were blown away by the service, function, and staff. The venue, itself, is naturally beautiful, the staff is extremely dedicated and excited, and the food is incredible. The event coordinator, Brittany, takes care of every detail that you can imagine, and is in your corner from day 1. We could not speak more highly of this venue, and the people who made our day so special.

NYE Wedding

Everything was remarkable from the service to the food, to the execution on timing, takedown etc.

We were extremely particular with some of our requests and the Teatro team was extremely accommodating. We have attended numerous weddings and have never seen this kind of execution on all fronts (food, beverage, service) and this sentiment was echoed by everyone who attended.

I would like to make a special note on the level of professionalism that Suzanne with Teatro's offered. She is remarkable as an event planner and having here be apart of your special day is a huge value add. We can't begin to say enough complimentary things about her and how capable she is. Rest assured that your event will be remarkable having her apart of the planning process.

Dissappointed

We were so excited to book our wedding at Teatro's Opera Room but it was a very disappointing experience. I was told further information about menu selections would require us to place our deposit. Upon placing our deposit, we were told we could have a non-alcoholic beverage for our toast but the details were not shared with what our options. When finalizing what our options were, we were only given 1 and I had to inquire myself from the menu about a soda that could be made. I had confirmed the function details for 2 dietary restrictions and was concerned this would not be taken seriously so I had emailed the coordinator twice to double check and she reassured me that there would not be a problem. This was important for us as we were making our menu selections because I did not want to place our guests in an uncomfortable position where they wouldn't be able to eat what was on the menu. My vegetarian guest at my table was served pork in their salad. I stopped the server to notify them of this error and reminded the server that our other guest for religious reasons cannot have pork and even pointed him out. I learned later that this was missed. As the bride, I had many other stressors and I did not realize my vegetarian guest ordered from the menu (non-vegetarian meal) and did not eat her meal. I emailed both the manager and event coordinator to notify them of this issue and was told that it was ultimately up to guests to confirm allergies/dietary restrictions when asked by the server. I was told that "we do not know who the guest of concern is based on a name alone". I had given the names and even pointed out this initial error to stop it from happening again. We had 1 server and she did not ask about dietary restrictions and only asked about allergies. For a restaurant serving a party of less than 30 this is unacceptable. I think the seriousness of dietary restrictions were not respected and placed our guests in an uncomfortable situation to speak up. We had rented coupe glasses and did not finish counting them at the end of the night when they were given back to us. Upon returning these items we learned we were missing 2. I think the biggest issue was that covid proof of vaccination is required and I was told it would be checked by staff. We had 1 server and 1 bartender. I was asked by my guests who to show their covid proof of vaccination and had to personally seek out staff to check. During dinner service, we had strangers entering from the doors as the doors we not locked after all our guests arrived and I had to go lock the door myself. I did not even think that this would be an issue. I'm not sure why the level of service was so lacking for us. The positive is that the space is beautiful and they were flexible with us having an indoor ceremony as we had a change of plans due to the weather. I was so happy to book with Teatro and thought it would be a lovely place to celebrate our anniversaries to come but unfortunately after this experience we won't be celebrating here ever again.

Brittany and the Teatro team went above and beyond!

Brittany and the team at Teatro Nailed our wedding and Reception! They did a beautiful job with all the details and “behind the scenes” stuff that when it came down to the big day - it was stress free and I was able to enjoy it - They were also extremely accommodating in all aspects. The food was also absolutely Incredible... we were told by several guests it was the best food they’ve had at a wedding!!!

HIGHLY recommend Brittany and the Teatro team for any event.

I am experienced, take charge events & marketing professional specializing in social media, event marketing & social events with the ability to manage administration, logistics and decor design in a busy special events environment. I have a very strong passion and love for event management and provide outstanding customer service. I am an enthusiastic professional and able to build strong relationships with all of my clients and cor-workers.I absolutely love what I do professionally and believe that to be one of the best parts about life.

I have been with Teatro Group as the Events Manager since 2016, based out of Teatro Restaurant where I oversee all small to large scale events including weddings, corporate events, offsite catering and events with the Teatro Groups other properties when applicable.

I obtained my Events Management Certificate from Mount Royal University in 2013, and I became a Certified Wedding Planner through the Wedding Planners Insititute of Canada in 2010.

My passions outside of work include my sweet boston terrier Primrose, gardening and growing my own food, plants (I have 37!), fashion, food and spending as much time as possible outdoors.
