About

Celebrate your special day at the gorgeous Zajac Ranch for Children. This beautiful site, located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, British Columbia, proudly rests on 41 acres of immaculate forested grounds. It is a unique wedding venue, since it is first and foremost a summer camp for chronically ill and disabled children. All revenue collected from wedding rentals goes toward subsidizing the cost of summer camp for kids.

Facilities and capacity

The ranch features a spacious gymnasium that is ideal for hosting reception dinners. It boasts an amphitheatre that can comfortably seat around 110 guests for a wedding ceremony. The dining room is ideal for all other wedding-related gatherings. The lodge lounges, sporting field, and a covered picnic area are also available for use and can accommodate up to 40 guests.

Services offered

Meals are offered by the venue, and staff is available to assist with event preparation and during receptions. Some additional services include:

  • Tables and folding chairs
  • Paper napkins
  • Dinnerware and cutlery
  • Power cords and extension cords

Accommodations

After the wedding, guests can relax at the venue itself. The ranch offers three comfortable lodging facilities. An overnight rate is available, which includes three meals and a one-night stay. Another night can be added for guests to stay on-site before your wedding -- with an evening snack and continental breakfast -- at an extra cost.

Other facilities

The venue offers a number of outdoor activities, such as horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, archery, and much more. Take a swim in the relaxing pool facility.

Location

Zajac Ranch for Children is located one hour east of Vancouver, British Columbia. It is around 46 kilometres from the Abbotsford International Airport.

Zajac Ranch - Beautiful for a wedding but not worth it!

We had our wedding here in 2023, and it was quite expensive to book. They allowed our guests to come for the weekend, which was great, however they charged $120 pp/per night (so $480 for a couple to stay the weekend) and the beds were not even made when we arrived, we did them ourselves. The food was also very expensive but it looked like it was pre-purchased from costco and prepared for children. The owners were unfriendly to deal with, and so many details that were in our contract were completely missed on the day of the wedding, including putting our drinks out for the cocktail hour. Although the venue is beautiful, and it was nice to have a couple nights with our guests, overall the service and pricing was not worth it. They also closed the gates to the ranch and only let people leave on the hour, which was never discussed in advanced and caused many guests to leave early. We did like that some of the booking money went to the ranch and children, but for the cost and what you receive, I would not recommend hosting your wedding at this venue.

Sept 2018 Wedding

I had my wedding at Zajac Ranch In September 2018 and loved the venue. We had around 100 guests and most of them spent the night. The weekend event was exactly what my husband and I wanted because we were able to set up on the Friday with our wedding party, have guests not have to worry about rides home or where they would stay and Sunday was a day for sharing all the happenings of the night before. The hardest part about Zajac was the communication between the foundation and the venue and the wedding coordinators. Planning with them was a bit frustrating as prices changed and I felt some things they charged for were a bit extreme. For example the over night cost was 80/person just for the bunks. The food for Friday night was nachos which was ok however for breakfast Sunday we were charged per person and although some of our guests didn’t eat the staff were still very mindful how much they were serving each guest, despite there being lots left over. Besides the communication being difficult with some of the staff leading up to the wedding the staff members who were there with us for our weekend went above and beyond to make it special and easy for us. The venue is beautiful for pictures on site and they’re is space for both bride a grooms to get ready. There is a pool to rent for an extra cost (might help to remind them to turn it on before the day of the event if you want it heated). In all before having my wedding at Zajac I wouldn’t have recommended it due to some frustrations with communication and planning however after the event I would highly recommend! Can’t beat a weekend wedding in a beautiful spot so close to the lower mainland and the staff on site really know how to put on a good time and help out.

We had our wedding here, and we loved it. It became a weekend event, as we checked in on Friday night to set up and left on Sunday morning. We had around 60 people, which felt like the perfect size for the location, and heard from many people that it was the best wedding ever! Like summer camp, but with some matrimonial bliss thrown in. Also the fact that all funds go to help sending kids to camp is amazing.

If I had one compliant, it was that some of the communication was a little unfocused at times from our head office contact, however I just kept reminding myself that they are a non-profit kids camp, not professional wedding planners. What more than made up for it, was how above and beyond the onsite staff went to help us over the course of the weekend. They went beyond expectations and then some. In fact, several of them hung out with us around the campfire jam session until the wee hours of the morning.

Initially you contact head office via email, which is located in down town Vancouver. All my emails were responded to promptly and I received above and beyond the information I was expecting. We were able to set up a tour of the facility that weekend, which was given by the camp coordinator who lives on site. From talking with him, we really realized how accommodating they really will be for our weekend. However if you're looking for a wedding in the middle of summer this is not the venue for you, as they are a summer camp. Although the only time they block off for the camp is the end of June to Mid august, still allowing you to have a summer wedding. The part the really sealed the deal for us was that 100% of the money you put towards your wedding, goes right back to the camp and helps to send disabled children to the camp. Overall wonderful staff, very flexible, beautiful venue and a great cause.

I booked this venue for my wedding. They have amazing and beautiful property. I was looking for a barn wedding and this is the best I found close to the lower mainland. The ranch communication is through here office which is located in Vancouver. It seems that the communication between the office the the ranch staff themselves are not alway up to par. When viewing the ranch the answers to questions would end up being different then the ones I received from the office. At some points it seemed like they didn't have time to help me via email as it would take them a few days to respond, and was voiced to me that there time is being taken up a lot with there summer camps, which is understandable. The venue is amazing and the people are nice however I Personally found it a but expensive as barely anything is included with the cost. The clean up was difficult as the staff wanted to do it all at night because "no one" would be here to supervise and get there items the next day. This was difficult as I did all the wedding myself so no one other then my self knew what was mine and what was there's. As it was my wedding night the last thing I wanted to do was stand there and make sure everything was sorted out properly.
When it came to getting the damage deposit back there was a few mistakes with that, and miss communication to what extras I had rented through them. But in the end we got it all sorted out and got the full refund back.
Overall all these things did not matter as when it came to the day the mistakes and the little things didn't matter. Our wedding turned out wonderful with only a few minor hiccups. The night of the staff where extremely helpful and the overseer for the night was great. (Sorry I forgot his name)
