About
Founded in 1997, byfield-pitman is one of Ottawa's longest-running wedding photography companies.
Our wedding and event pictures are very candid and our work is best characterized by the sense of narrative that's present in our documentary-style photography. Our storytelling can be found in the emotional and joyful moments captured between a couple on their wedding day, and our flair for photojournalism can be seen in the way that we shoot events.
With our wedding-day portraiture, our subjects are always poised and confident, while remaining warm and approachable. A common thread in our portraits is how at ease people look in front of our photographer's camera.
Ben Welland is a full-time professional photographer, and is the owner of byfield-pitman photography.

I'm a full-time professional photographer, and the owner of byfield-pitman photography.
I first became interested in photography in 1994 at the age of fourteen when I built a black and white darkroom in my parent's basement. I photographed my first wedding in 1997, and studied photography for two years at Algonquin College starting in 1998 and earning my diploma in 2000.
In the years since, I've photographed hundreds of weddings, worked for dozens of editorial and commercial clients, and have taught several photography courses at Ottawa’s own SPAO – School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa. I was also the primary photographer at Ottawa's weekly arts newspaper, Xpress, for 10 years between 2002 and 2012.
I now work exclusively as the lead photographer at byfield-pitman photography.
