Mixed Experience: Excellent Planning, Poor Execution
We heard great things about Crystal Sound and were excited to book with them for both our wedding social and our wedding day. From the start, their admin team (especially Serena) was amazing — responsive, helpful, and kind. When our first-choice DJ, Tony Jr., wasn’t available, we booked Roger for our social and he absolutely crushed it. He was professional, fun, and followed all of our requests to a tee.
For our wedding, we asked for Roger again, but three weeks before the big day, we were informed he couldn't make it. We were flexible and ended up having a great planning call with DJ James Anderson. He was friendly and confident, and we truly felt like he understood how important music was to us. We’re both huge music lovers and put a lot of care into our playlists — we even themed the dance night by hour and gave him more music than he’d need to work with.
Unfortunately, James didn’t follow the plan at all. He skipped many of our chosen songs, played random instrumentals and songs that didn’t match the vibe, and ignored multiple requests from us to shift the tone when people weren’t dancing. He also disappeared during the speeches and missed important cues. Despite giving him clear direction, a great playlist, and positive energy, he chose to “go rogue,” and that completely changed the vibe of our dance. We had envisioned the best party of our lives, and instead, there was a lot of downtime and confusion. It was heartbreaking, honestly.
I followed up with Serena after the wedding and she handled it professionally and empathetically. She acknowledged the DJ didn’t follow instructions and that it was unacceptable. I appreciated her taking it seriously, but I never really got closure or an offer to make things right.
Bottom line: Crystal Sound’s admin team is awesome. But if your DJ changes close to your wedding day, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. We paid for a professional service, and that’s not what we got. I can’t recommend DJ James Anderson, and I hope others don’t have the same experience we did.
