Spotlight dances - are they a must-do?

Lynnie, on January 20, 2020 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 23

How much of a stickler for wedding traditions are you?? Are you thinking about skipping the traditional first dance or the parent dances (father-daughter, mother-son, etc)? Or are your dance moves and song selections way too good to ever consider skipping those spotlight dances? 🎵

Are spotlight dances a must-do to you?

I feel like the first dance of the couple is a must, but the others would be optional depending on the parent situation or who wanted to do it vs. not

This isn't a must but we are going to have our first dance, obviously, and then our parent dances.

First dance I think is important, it's a must-do for us. As for the dances with parents, that's a tough one. I don't talk to my dad and don't really have a father figure other than my mom, so we're figuring that out

Yes a must. The first dance at least. We will be doing a father daughter dance also.

As much as we hate being the centre of attention, yeah they're a must. I think we'd regret not doing them.

Must do! Though husband isn't fond of people in his way, the first dance and mother/sons dance was memorable and to look forward in years on the video.

We are keeping them. Planning to do a waltz for our first dance and then doing the traditional parent dances.

For us they were a must. I danced with my dad and DH danced with my mom. I switched halfway to dance with Dh's dad too. I think most people do parent dances for the parents' benefit, but other than that, the only dance that's a must-have is the first dance!

We're going to do a first dance and then each dance with our moms. My dad has mobility issues and just doesn't like dancing so I'm having a mother daughter dance instead of a father daughter one.

My FH is also planning on dancing with his grandmother to one of her favourite songs

My father isn't invited to the wedding and his mother has mobility issues that she would not appreciate being highlighted. We'll do a first dance to kick the party off but that's it for special dances.

It was a must for me personally, but I understand why some people don’t do them either due to relationships with their parents or even being shy or really emotional. I was a bit of a wreck during my father daughter dance

It's not a must that these be scheduled, but we will have a significant song for us, and for me and my dad worked into the playlist. Dad and I have My Girl and Do You Believe in Magic as "our songs" finding a first dance for FH and I is way harder to choose!

I mean - what does that mean for those who don't have their parents around if we say they are a must?? But for my wedding we did have both the Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dance as well as our first dance.

A must for us. We did them, and the pictures were beautiful. It was one of the only traditions that we kept

If FH had put up a fight then I wouldn't have been heartbroken about not doing it, but I'm glad he agreed to it

For us they are a must. I hate dancing when everyone is watching though - so nervous I’ll face plant or trip over my own feet.
