I booked and paid my deposit on May 9th, 2024 for my July 5th 2025, wedding.
I also checked in with her to make sure everything was good in March 2025.

On July 1st, I emailed her to provide directions to the venue. On the morning of July 3rd (TWO DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING), I received an email from Tanya informing me that she “will not be able to photograph my wedding due to unforeseen circumstances” and will be refunding our deposit. Without explanation other than the fact that she apparently meant to inform me in June, but left the email in her drafts.

Tanya offered no solution, and the apology seemed extremely insincere without providing a reason for the cancellation (but made sure to point out that she had never cancelled a wedding like this in her 20 years). I asked Tanya if she knew anyone else who could do it and received no response.

Here’s the thing. A family friend recommended Tanya to us because they are friends. This family friend called her to find out what was going on and how this happened. Tanya apparently accidentally double-booked herself and decided to do the other event “because they paid the deposit sooner” or something. This is very hard to believe, considering I paid my deposit 14 months ago and checked in with her multiple times. I believe perhaps the other event was higher paying, but that’s just my speculation.

The fact that she was going to cancel on us in June would have already made it very difficult and stressful to find a replacement, but not even checking that the email was sent is very unprofessional.

I understand that people make mistakes, and I'm sure she's a good photographer, but for peace of mind that you won’t get cancelled on 2 days before your wedding when you booked 14 months in advance and checked in multiple times…do not book with her.
