J. Jin Photography is a wedding and portrait photographer based in St. John's, Newfoundland, with over 15 years of experience.
I started with my mom's old film camera, a wedding gift she held onto for 50 years. That camera taught me to pay attention before pressing the shutter. I studied anthropology and spent years documenting rituals, festivals, and communities around the world. That background still shapes how I work: I watch first, then photograph.
Every wedding is different: Big receptions, small gatherings, elopements on a cliff with two witnesses and a lot of wind. I've done all of them, and what I've gotten good at is reading the room, adjusting to the pace of your day, not the other way around. I don't direct much. I don't need you to perform for the camera. The best photos come when people forget I'm there and just be themselves.
Newfoundland weather is unpredictable, and I've learned to work with it. Fog, wind, dramatic skies; they're not obstacles. They're what makes your photos look like they happened here and nowhere else.
