About

Photographer Scott Williams is based in Kitchener, Ontario. He specializes in a photojournalistic style and, as a dad himself, wants to capture the happiness and excitement of your wedding day so that you will be able to share those moments with future generations -- the children, grandchildren, and other family members who don't exist yet. He will create a series of images that will tell the entire story of your big day.

Experience

Scott’s work has been published in magazines, such as Wedding Bells, and has won awards from Fearless Photographers, ISPWP, and the WPJA. He has attended several prestigious photography workshops, including the Foundation Workshop, Mountain Workshops, Magnum Workshops, and ones with Cliff Mautner and David A. Williams. He has been capturing weddings since 2005 and can cover any kind of event, from huge gatherings to intimate celebrations.

Services offered

Scott offers full coverage of the entire day, from the bride getting ready to the reception. You are at liberty to design your wedding package and add as many options as you wish. In addition to getting a full, professional wedding album, a full set of low-resolution files -- perfect for online use and printing copies (up to five-by-seven) -- is included. His packages also offer the following:

  • Engagement photography
  • Custom-designed thank-you cards
  • Full-resolution digital images
  • Online proofing
  • Highlight slideshow

Couples can also hire a second photographer who will work alongside Scott. Besides covering weddings, Scott also does heirloom and commercial photography.

How they work

Scott only offers full-day coverage with no hourly limits for weddings. Beginning with documenting the bride getting her hair and makeup done, he clicks away until late into the night. No funny, emotional, or intimate moments will escape Scott’s keen eye. He only poses couples and guests for formal portraits, capturing the rest of the day's special moments as the event unfolds. His work has such clean colours and tones that minimal editing is required beyond slight touch-ups on portraits.

Scott is an amazing photographer and a joy to work with. He makes you feel so comfortable doing something that has the potential to feel so awkward -posing and showing a ton of PDA. Scott stays in the background unless he needs a shot up close -and he always gets the shot he wants. They all look natural, even if he had to coach my now husband and I during the shoot -which we really appreciated. There's not much worse then when you hire a photographer who stays quiet and then when you get the pictures weeks later there is something little wrong with all your pictures that could have been easily fixed with some coaching -like a hair in your face. When we did group/family shots we made sure that everyone looked good, without being bossy. He was so much fun, and truly worked his butt off the entire wedding day. We spent at least 5 hours shooting after the ceremony because we had so much family, and he never even came close to complaining -even when we were technically done and I realised I wanted a couple more shots. We also asked for a second photographer, and Sam, the gentleman Scott had help him, was just as good. I am confident we chose the best we could have, and for a very competitive price. Did I mention we had them from 8 am to 1am? For a set price too, none of this one fee for 6 hours and double the base price for the rest of the night!

Scott was absolutely fantastic. My husband and I cannot say enough about his professionalism and his quality of work. We hired Scott in May to photograph our wedding and would do it again in an instant. He was punctual, friendly, flexible and very discreet - at times you could forget he was even there! Perhaps more importantly, his photos were some of the best I've seen when compared to other photographers. He was creative, innovative and captured the day perfectly. If you have the opportunity to have Scott photograph a special event in your life, take it!

Scott photographed our wedding and our experience with him was absolutely outstanding. Scott was so dedicated and attentive - he was with us for every moment of the day (and party at night) and made sure he didn't miss a thing. He was also super easy to work with and very creative. We could really tell that he was passionate about his photography, and about providing us with the most beautiful and intimate images to remember our day by. The photographs that Scott delivered really blew us away - we love how candid the shots are and how well he captured all of the different emotions and aspects of our wedding. We highly recommend his services!

Scott has photographed 3 weddings in my family and in every instance the experience was great. Scott is a true professional, and we had no hesitation booking him for an engagement shoot as well as the wedding day shoot.

Scott has a great eye - and I do not agree with the review below which mentions lackluster composition. Scott captures exactly what a bride and groom ask him to, and adds his own little touches and perspectives on the day. In addition to the "required shots", Scott does an excellent job blending into the scenery and getting amazing candid photos.

We would, and DO, recommend Scott to everyone.

We found Scott in his early stages of his professional photographer career. We consider ourselves extremely lucky as his work was amazing and he was extremely professional throughout the entire process. Scott shot our engagement pictures which gave us a good idea of his work and his commitment to our upcoming wedding photos. When our wedding day arrived, Scott when over and above to ensure that he was on-time and available to capture all of the pictures we had hoped for. His professional attitude and kind-hearted personality put my husband and I at ease and allowed us to enjoy our day to the fullest without having to stress about the pictures. Scott is a creative, talented, focused and driven photographer. We were so impressed with Scott's abilities that we continue to have him shoot our family photo sessions every year. He was able to capture a day in the life of our firstborn son and was there to also capture a day in the life of our second born son. Because of Scott, have beautiful memories from our wedding and our growing family. Scott is a true professional.

We met Scott during our engagement photo session and were taken aback by the quality of the photos we received so we decided to hire him for our wedding day. Scott was excellent in all respects. He was professional, talented, flexible, and funny! He was happy to not only work with our wishes but he offered his own creativity and for that we are so ever grateful.

In our opinion, Scott went over and above what our contract stated, he arrived when we woke up in the morning and stayed until the very end of the evening. He was easy to get along with and felt like he was a part of our family.

We were especially impressed at how unique our photos were. We hadn't anticipated that so much personality could be transferred into each image, he certainly captured each moment and when we look at our pictures it takes us right back to our wedding day.

We are grateful for the memories that Scott was able to capture for us. All in all it was a fabulous experience working with Scott - we miss him!

We were very happy to have Scott as our photographer on our wedding day! We met with him multiple times prior to the wedding to review our plans for engagement photos, images we were hoping for the day of the wedding and the demographics of our location (outdoor wedding). Understanding our hectic and varied work schedules, he was very accommodating with our meet times.
Scott's calm demeanor was complimentary to both my husband's relaxed attitude and my wedding planner's (mom!) excitability.
Throughout the day, he was courteous, professional and low-profile, all the while capturing the magic of our day and the emotions of our familiy and friends.
Without a doubt, his amazing work and friendly attitude has resulted in us sending multiple referrals his way while continuing to follow his success and inquire about future bookings with him.
You can not go wrong with Capturing the Light Photography!

Scott was an absolute pleasure to work with for our engagement and wedding pictures. We were so thrilled with his work that we referred him to our friends for their special events and for pictures of our young nieces. He was prompt, personable, creative, imaginative and funny! Everything you want when things get a bit stressful. We proudly display his work and our gorgeous engagement photo book in our home.

Scott was a dream to work with! He was with us from the very beginning of the day, right to the very end of the night. Everyone who sees our photos comments on how beautiful they are, and the rich story they tell of the day.

His sense of humour and easy going nature allowed Scott to be a presence when necessary (fleeting moments of freaking out were quickly cured by his wise words and a joke), and invisible when the occasion called for it (the ceremony), but he never missed a moment.

Even now, 2 and a half years later, I am so thankful that we hired Scott to capture our wedding. I look at the photos often, and I feel confident knowing that his classic photojournalism take on wedding photography results in timeless photos that won't look dated when other photography trends will have come and gone.

His work speaks for itself: Scott needs no fancy filters or crazy Photoshopping--he knows how to take a fabulous photo, and how to be a great addition to any wedding. We will definitely be hiring Scott again for future occasions. I can't say enough good things about his work.

Having beautiful and memorable photos was very important to me. I thought I had made the right decision having Scott photography my wedding. After comparing the quality of my photos to several of my friends who got married at the same time, I can now say that I wish I had gone with another photographer. He didn't miss any key moments, but missed some cute unexpected things that happened on the spur of the moment. Also, some of the composition is not very interesting (ie. all my family portraits are identical, no close-ups, only one shot delivered of each) and some photos were blurry. I also wish that he had spent more time doing photos with my wedding party and of the bride and groom. I only have 2 photos of the wedding party and just a handful of the bride and groom.
After I found out how much some of my friends paid for far superior photos, I realized that Scott is charging way too much for what he delivers. Overall I am disappointed with my photos.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
