Rabbi Elina Bykova's reply:Dear Marie France and Alexis, it was my great pleasure to be part of your celebration. I feel it is my duty, my moral or legal obligation to help people to be happy and to be able to celebrate especially during this time when so much is taken away from us due to the COVID restrictions. I wish you many years of happy file together in love and mutual support!

So glad we found Rabbi Bykova!
We are a gay, interfaith couple, and that already limited our choices somewhat and then because we had a vision for our ceremony that incorporated some elements of non-theistic earth based spirituality, with a Jewish base underpinning the whole thing we struggled to find an officiant who could help us. We did some research and interviewed a few other officiants, but I knew that even if they were able to say the transliterated words, they wouldn't really be able to give us a 'Jewish wedding' so to speak, and it was important to me. I've known Rabbi Bykova off and on for going on 10 years now, and when I saw that she was an officiant, I was super excited to make contact and see if this could work. I'm SO GLAD I did! Immediately after reaching out, she was able to walk us through the process of getting married in Quebec (not as simple as you hope!), what options would be available to us, and what our ceremony might look like. With her guidance and help, we were able to craft an incredibly personal and emotional ceremony that brought our guests (and ourselves!) to tears and set the tone for the day; it was heimishe, loving and free spirited. We were able to call our families up for the sheva brachot which they loved, we did a ring ceremony and the 7 circles, and were able to entirely personalise the words and ceremony to something that better reflected our beliefs and practices! It wasn't just getting married that was important, it was the 'How' we were going to go about it. Rabbi Bykova from the start was helpful, hilarious, good humoured and flexible. She kept us on track with submitting documents and paperwork and handled everything for us. It was smooth, and pleasant, as much as dealing with any official paperwork ever is! ;) My now spouse was not at all familiar with Jewish weddings, and because she made herself available we had an entire walk through that really eased our nerves before the big day! On the day of the wedding, she was punctual, professional and did a smashing job of marrying us :) Our ceremony was sweet, romantic, meaningful and warm; all of our guests commented on how beautiful the whole thing was and we really felt it too. Because of who we are, we didn't have as many options, but in the end we didn't need more than one; because of Rabbi Bykova, not only was it possible for us to have a Jewish wedding, it one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives.Sent on 29/08/2019

Rabbi Elina Bykova was extremely helpful during these last few months of craziness. No matter how much we kept changing - the time, the amount of people, the location - she kept her cool and was very understanding. She made the legalization of the marriage very easy on us which helped us so much to focus on the day. Thank you Rabbi!Sent on 13/10/2020
