Flowers - Perfect, Professionalism - Not so Perfect

We worked with Sweetpeas for our wedding in Toronto this past May. This review started as 5 stars, but unfortunately we had to reduce to 3 stars due to 2 incidents with this vendor.

Starting with the reason for 5 stars - the flowers. The quality and design of the flowers were incredible. The flowers were all different, of a very high quality, and fit the theme and look of our wedding. During our consultation at the shop, Morgan really listened and understood what we were looking for. The flowers were beautiful, and accented our event!

The reason we have reduced our review has to do with admin / account management by the Sweetpeas team, starting with our consultation at their office about 1 month before the wedding. A member of our wedding party was injured during the consultation, and hit their back and head, and were unable to participate fully in the rest of the consultation session. This happened because of a broken piece of furniture in the Sweetpeas office. The Sweetpeas team was sort of concerned at first, but didn't take any accountability for this incident, or show concern. When we received an email from Sweetpeas following the consultation, there was no follow-up on whether the member of our wedding party was OK, no apology, no reference at all to the incident. We were really surprised by the lack of concern, but with a month to go to the wedding, chose to move on and move ahead.

Then, the night before the wedding, the groom's flowers were picked up. However, Sweetpeas forgot to include the Mother of the Groom's corsage. The groom reached out to Sweetpeas asking where the corsage was, and the response back from Sara at Sweetpeas was unprofessional. In defence of forgetting the corsage, Sweetpeas responded that they "don't do weddings on Mother's Day". Well, we had booked their services 8 months in advance, and to receive a response like this the night before was really off-putting. Sweetpeas had made it clear our event was not a priority for them, and were blaming our date for their disorganization. The corsage was delivered the next day, but as you can imagine, this added really unnecessary stress before an incredibly important day.

We thank Sweetpeas for the quality of the product, however, are unlikely to work with them on any event that requires higher touch customer service.

    Sweetpea's's reply:

    Good afternoon Emma,
We are sorry to hear you felt we did not proactively help or show concern, regarding your mother in law.

Please know, I was unaware the chair in the office had not been properly assembled, prior to your arrival. We actually bought the table and chairs specifically for your consult, as we hadn’t had anyone in-studio since the pandemic. The team put them together while I was getting supplies. I was told, our admin had planned to sit in the broken chair, but sadly, we didn’t get to it before your MIL sat in it. They felt truly awful.

Once I arrived to the studio, following your consult and was informed of what happened, I immediately went out and got the parts to repair it. The matter was taken very seriously on our backend, however, you are right and the follow-up from our team, should have been more direct with you. We apologize.

In terms of the misunderstanding regarding the corsage. My reply was simply that the order had said the groom’s items for pick-up. Our understanding was this meant the boutonnières. The mother’s pieces normally go with the bridal party, as they typically get their hair and makeup done together. I didn’t feel the explanation was unprofessional. I’m sorry that was how it was interpreted on your end.

We explained the error, apologized for the confusion and said that due to the Mother’s Day rush, we didn’t have a driver available send the piece that night, but assured you, they would be delivered with everything the following day, for the wedding itself. It was not meant to diminish the importance of your wedding plans.

We don’t normally take weddings on Mother’s Day, due to volume, but had made an exception for you. This was meant to express our eagerness to work with you, not to dismiss you. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clearly stated.

I, personally, delivered and set up your wedding myself. We truly enjoyed creating your pieces and are happy you felt the flowers were the quality and style you hoped for.

Thank you for your feedback. We will take this back to the team, to discuss and ensure better service in the future.

    Have a good day,
    Sara (owner)

Amazing execution on the flowers, beautiful day!

We worked with Sweetpeas through not one, but two postponements and finally had our day. After pivoting so many times, I didn't have much direction to give in terms of a floral vision, it was really just a colour palette and a bridesmaids dress colour.

The flowers turned out PERFECT, WOW! The team at Sweetpeas put their creativity into the arrangements, executing something that was better than what I could have visualized or described myself.

The office was a little hard to get ahold of at times during the pandemic, but they were very responsive in the weeks leading up to the wedding and were clearly moving everything along in the background.

Stunning, trendy flowers; Helpful and thoughtful service

We absolutely loved our flowers! Sara worked with us to put together a vision board that fit both our ideal look and our budget. The finished products were even better than we could imagine. Sweetpea's did a wonderful job with every aspect. They are thoughtful, helpful, and it's clear they prioritize customer service. Can't recommend enough!

    Dreamy Flower Arrangements

Sweetpea’s put together the most beautiful flower arrangements for our wedding at the end of November, 2018. We worked with Sara, who was incredibly helpful throughout the planning process. She was very accommodating, even when I had a last minute idea for an additional colour I wanted to add to my bridal bouquet. The delivery on the day of the wedding was as scheduled and everyone swooned when they saw the amazing arrangements. The staff at Sweetpea’s also added greenery to an archway at our venue. We thought this was stunning and were so happy with how it turned out. I would absolutely recommend ordering your flowers from Sweetpea’s for any event!

    Stunningly beautiful flowers

Sara and the sweetpea’s staff were a dream to work with. My husband and I are not the most decisive people in the world. We didn’t exactly know what our vision was for our wedding flowers but we knew what we did not like. Sara was so understanding and worked patiently with us to perfectly capture what we wanted. Her guidance and artistic style made for the most gorgeous bouquets, boutineers and table garland. Our wedding coordinator even commented on how beautiful the garland was and how she had never seen them so well made before. We even had some last minute changes to our floor plan, which resulted in changes in the table lengths. Sweetpea’s was so amazing and reassured us this would not be a problem to accommodate, and they were able to change the lengths of the garland.

Thanks you sweetpeas for all hard work and making our day so incredibly beautiful!

    Romantic Summer Blooms

Sara and the Sweetpea's Staff were an absolute joy to work with for our wedding on Saturday June 23rd 2018 in Toronto, we were beyond pleased with the flowers and service we received.

The consultation was a great first step in helping us determine what palette, flowers and price point we were going to go with. I never felt pressured into buying more than I could afford or chose flowers I did not like - the added touch of the shop's kitties coming for pats was also lovely. Sara's knowledge was very appreciated as we looked over types of flowers that may be in season for our wedding and she was very helpful in managing our expectations of what nature may and may not be able to provide for the day, while also striving to keep everything locally sourced - which was a big selling point for me before coming to the shop.

Pick up and delivery was seamless, the flowers for the bridesmaids matched the girl's outfits perfectly and my bouquet was absolutely stunning- a beautiful blend of summer blooms with gentle greenery that highlighted the romantic summer feeling we wanted at our wedding.

The table settings for dinner service were also exactly as I had pictured, not too dense, not too sparse, and the accompanying pieces in the windows and the large standard piece pulled everything together to enhance the beauty of the space we were working with.

I would recommend Sara and her team at Sweetpea's in a heartbeat to anyone looking for event floral design - Thank you so much for all of your beautiful work!

    Sweetpea's's reply:

    Kate,
Thank you so much for your kind review. You were a pleasure to work with. We wish both you and Scott the very best.

Have a great and wonderful life together,
    Sara

I wanted a big ole unruly bouquet with some sunflowers and they blew me away. Honestly, it was one of the highlights of the wedding for me. They were super easy to work with, fit my budget and helped ease my jitters too. It was like they took all my Pinterest ideas (and read my mind). It was a stunning bouquet! Thank you so much!

After meeting with Jenn from Sweetpea's at the shop I knew she was an experienced wedding florist. Sweetpea's made beautiful bouquets with exactly the type of flowers and feel we wanted for our wedding. I liked being able to provide our own glassware and select the exact flowers that would be used.

Thank you, Jenn for providing the personal and cake flowers for our summer wedding! It was important to me to use sustainably grown flowers. The flowers that Jenn put together for us were beautiful and exceeded our expectations. My bridal bouquet was absolutely gorgeous and matched the style I had provided for inspiration. It wonderfully complemented my dress and even matched our invitation. Our videographer and photographer were impressed – so much so that my photographer wanted to know the name of our florist so that he could recommend them to his clients. Jenn successfully worked with our many requests, including creating surprise bouquets that we presented to our parents during our ceremony. She even personally decorated my mini-wedding cake which looked so pretty. Thank you for capturing our theme and vision so well and adding natural beauty to our wedding. Now that my bouquet has dried, it will be a keepsake of my wedding. We highly recommend Sweetpea’s for your flower needs. This is definitely our go-to florist!

I really wanted to like Sweetpea’s, I really did. After reading so many good reviews (and some negative ones) my wife went in for a consultation. They were courteous, responsive, and extremely accommodating for what we needed. We decided to book our wedding flowers with them and that’s where a lot of things went wrong.

We had our wedding at the Guild Inn Estate with our ceremony held in at the gazebo from 3-4 and that there was another ceremony at 4:30. We mentioned the gazebo is not a traditional gazebo and showed photos of what it would look like (it has a roof, attached to the event halls). We wanted an archway with garlands and blooms. It was a waste to throw away the garlands and blooms so we also asked for it to be repurposed for our sweetheart table, bar area, and receiving table. No problem they said. The exorborant ($450) delivery fee of our invoice has that wording on it as well. It was OK to us because we understood that they would have had to be there waiting until the ceremony was completed.

On the day of our wedding, it was sunny except for a brief period after our ceremony (~4PM-5:30PM). That should not have been a problem since the ‘gazebo’ has a full roof and is connected to the event hall so that there would be no trips outside required. After the ceremony, it was nearing 4PM and the archway was not yet moved. I had called into the office to ask where they were since another ceremony was waiting to be set up.

I left the area to deal with some issues after my call and came back to my wife panicking because she said the delivery people from Sweetpea’s were just going to leave without repurposing the garlands and blooms. The maid of honour had told me she asked a man that was moving the archway some questions but he kept insisting he is not with the company and doesn’t work for them. She was awaiting under shelter in the gazebo to speak with the woman that did work for them, Jenna.

As I looked on at Jenna packing the final stuff in the trunk, she headed to the driver side door without looking back. I ran out into the rain to stop her. As the rain was pouring down on me, Jenna refused to step into shelter to talk, insisting that she had done her job and that repurposing the garlands were not her instructions and asked if I saw that they put something else on the sweetheart table. I explained that I did see what they put on the table, but it was bare and looked empty as we wanted to cover the table with the garlands. She kept refusing to do so and I became visibly and audibly upset and raised my voice. I told her that it is in the contract/invoice for the repurposing and that we could call Jenn (our Sweetpea’s contact). She told me that Jenn was in another city for another event. I told her that I can open the emails or our contract to which she refused to want to see. Getting even more annoyed now I mentioned to her that she was late which she blamed the rain. I understood that I was becoming upset and had apologized many times for my demeanour and voice but that this was not what I had paid for.

The man came out of the passenger side car and walked over to us in the rain. I am soaking wet at this point trying to plead with her that the garlands were supposed to be on the tables. I mentioned that the rain just started and the man looked at Jenna and looked at me and asked why I was talking about the rain for (since he was not privy to the conversation we had just had about her being late).

I introduced to myself, explained I was the groom and asked for his name. He did not give me his name and said “I’m her husband and you’re being an asshole”. I had thought he called me an ‘fucking asshole’ but Sara let me know that he is not the type of person that would say ‘fucking asshole’ but admitted he did call me an asshole (but really, there isn’t much of a difference). At which point Jenna pushed him to go back inside the car and said “that’s enough”. She finally understood and told me that she would put greens on the sweetheart table (but no mention of the receiving table or bar area, which, to be honest, are not as important) to make it look less empty. I thanked her and after (probably 5-10 minutes talking in the rain), I was soaked in my tux at my own wedding.

We went in to see Sara (the owner) as we see that she often replies back to Yelp negative reviews and wanted her to make some things right a couple days later. We explained what happened on our side to which she explained what she had heard from Jenna and Cam (the man I was speaking of earlier).

Sara took their side and believe all aspects of their story (while dismissing any conflicting aspects of mine). Explained to me that florist generally take a lot of heat as they are in the front lines, that Jenna said I was becoming irate and borderline abusive. She mentioned to me that they did put something in the table that we did not pay for as they were cognizant of the weather. We thanked her for that but explained that no one told us ahead of time and we came into our wedding expecting one thing while getting another. She explained that they decided to do that on Friday night, which we then had to explain that although we are thankful, this all could have been resolved by a simple heads up. Sara said that the garlands but were ruined and could not have been repurposed. We said that it was only ruined because Jenna did the teardown and packed it away, that you could go from the gazebo to our event space in complete shelter. Sara also mentioned that we did not say that the floor of the gazebo was concrete. We told her that we had shown images of the gazebo to Jenn previously and again, that the gazebo was not a traditional gazebo.

Sara acknowledged that Cam was out of line by calling me an asshole (although I don’t understand why he would tell my friend he doesn’t work for the company and refuse to give his name) and that she was upset at him for doing so and that he is a very kind man. Sara told me that Cam would like to call me to apologize to which I explained that an apology would not be needed. I was more shocked at his language and that I understood that it was raining and that he saw I was upset by raising my voice and he was doing what he felt he needed to by defending his wife.

Sara also told me that Jenna was on standby at the ceremony and that it was in bad taste for Jenna to have started to pack away the archway if people were still in the ceremony space. I let her know that I did not understand why she would blame the rain if she was in the space. I had thought she had blamed the rain for being late. It became a he-said, she-said and was clear that she was sticking to her workers version of the events. She did indicate that they have an issue with communication and they are working on it (too late for me, but maybe not for you prospective clients). She informed me that she would not refund me, that I had received everything I asked for, but after explaining why I feel I should receive half of the delivery fee ($450) back, she offered a third. We took it, although begrudgingly.

Sara, you will probably read this and reply as is your right. As I said when we met, I do hope you understand the frustration that my wife and I experienced is not due to the quality of your work but at the customer service aspects and lack of communication that has fostered in your shop. We had been OK with the delivery fee of $450 due to the promises made by associates in your shop and although we had a small flower budget, we were OK with the delivery fee being almost a third of it due to those promises. There are definitely some things that you have said your workers told you that we know to be false. You don’t have to take mine or my wife or even my friend’s words for it, you can just ask our 3 photographers and videographer, they were just as surprised as we were.

    Sweetpea's's reply:

    Viet (Even),
This is multiple times you have posted reviews, not only here, but on other forums. Your reviews were reported and removed from several of these sites as they violated their terms. In spite of this, you continue to post new reviews, changing them each time.

We feel we have addressed this both in person (and issued a refund) as well as on the various online forums you have posted this on.

As far as we are concerned, this matter is closed.
