Amazing Experience
Southwood Golf Club was the perfect venue! We found their pricing to be significantly better, and the venue had a more favorable layout compared to other golf courses in the city. Haley was extremely responsive and very accommodating to our needs. The food was amazing, and the backyard area was perfect for cocktail hour and space to relax after dinner. An amazing place for your wedding
Overall a 10/10 experience! Haley the Food and Beverage Director, was so lovely to work with, always quick to answer and had answers for things we didn’t even think about asking. Not only Haley but the entire staff ensured our day ran smoothly while being quick to serve, and clean up. The food was delicious and they truly gave us so much flexibility for the day including specialty drinks and allowing us to bring in yard games to enjoy with the guests! The pricing was great for keeping it budget friendly but not sacrificing great food and a great environment. The venue is absolutely stunning and we would recommend this place to anyone who wanted to have a stress free and enjoyable experience!Southwood Golf & Country Club's reply:

Amazing venue with great service!
This venue was perfect for our special day! My fiancé and I went a day early to set up chairs and the grounds person showed us where to go to get nice and close and had guys help us with the set up so it went way faster. The coordinator (Haley) was absolutely amazing! She answered all my questions and responded in a timely manner. She helped make the process less stressful and was very accommodating. The service was incredible, they were very attentive and super friendly. I’m very glad we chose Southwood for our wedding and I would do it again in a heartbeat.Southwood Golf & Country Club's reply:

The most perfect day!
Everything prior to our wedding and day of was so great. Haley was very responsive throughout the entire process, and answered every question we had and was very accommodating for every special request to make sure everything was the way we wanted it. The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. We had so many guests comment on how good the food was! We did a corkage bar, and had two custom cocktails, which were also incredible and had great feedback on! All the staff were so great, professional, fun, and very attentive. The patio area you get access to is so great for relaxing and enjoying the grounds (and the sunset!!).

Dream day at an excellent venue
Planned a wedding in under a year, the staff (Hailey) at Southwood were very helpful and professional. Hailey made sure all of our questions and concerns were heard and handled, and she made sure the big day went off without a hitch. July 13, 2024 Wedding
When we first started looking for venues last year, the communication with Southwood was okay. Later in the process, there was a change in personnel with Haley taking over and we noticed an improvement in communication. Haley worked with us to arrange the aspects of our wedding that took place at Southwood. Some examples include customizing meals for multiple dietary restrictions (gluten-free and vegetarian) and being very clear in the pricing (there were no surprise costs). The $1000 room rental is a steal. We had positive reviews from our guests about the food (brie and cranberry stuffed chicken, custom dish - palak paneer, and nachos for the late-night snack) and the venue itself (both indoors and outdoors). Gorgeous Venue for Small, Budget Friendly Wedding
If you want a gorgeous venue to host a small budget-friendly wedding, I strongly recommend Southwood. I am very happy with Haley, the current event coordinator. She was easy to work with and helped make our day run smoothly.
Our wedding was in May and the weather ended up being 1 degree outside...so although I would have loved to keep the ceremony outside with their beautiful tree line like we had planned, we decided to move our ceremony into the reception area the morning of. I was completely expecting to be charged for all of the ceremony space outside, despite not actually using the area; however, without me even having to ask, Haley refunded me for it which I felt was very kind.
Overall, Southwood was very transparent about every single cost and I never felt like I was getting "wedding taxed". Our guests are still talking about how amazing the buffet dinner was, especially the desserts! The late-night sliders and poutine bar was also a big hit. On top of that, the week of our wedding I had asked if there was any way that I could bring in my favourite beer that they typically do not carry and Haley was able to just offer to have it ordered in. PLUS she helped finalize our signature cocktails, which was really a last minute detail we decided to do. They did a great job keeping up with our guests accessing the open bar! Beyond happy with our experience! -

A great day
Venue was beautiful. Food was delicious. They did not want to do set-up besides the bare minimum and servers were unorganised. Overall it was great. -

Things I wish I knew before booking with Southwood
We got married in summer 2023, and booked the venue the year before, during this time, Southwood went through 3 different event organizers which created issues. For one, we had asked a year prior to the wedding date if we could have beer boys handing out beer to our guest, the first organizer said yes to this but the last had informed us 3 days before the wedding that we wouldn't be able to do it since it was illegal even if the guys serving out the beer had their serving it safe license. It would of just been appreciated to know this much earlier. However, last minute information really seemed to be a re-occurring issue while planning with this venue. They also waited to let us know 2 days before the event that contrary to their contract which states: "Last call will be at 12:30 a.m. and the building must be entirely vacated by 1:00 a.m" that we actually needed to be out of the building before 12:30 as that's when the staff locked up and left and the front gates would close at 1am. We were really disappointed in this news as the later time was one of the reasons why we had chosen this venue. Finally here's a list of other issues we ran into with planning a wedding at this venue
- If they have an event the next day you'll need to have everything cleared out the night of.
- You can only set up for the wedding the day of.
- They don't do tastings.
- They usually take a week or 2 to respond to emails
- They told us so many times that we wouldn't need a mic however I insisted on having one as I could not imagine having 90 guests at an outdoor wedding being able to hear what we were saying without one. They said it wouldn't be an issue and that they could provide one, but day of, there was no mic set up. The front row had a hard time hearing, no one else heard anything.
- They changed the prices on the contract for certain dishes and didn't advise us of the new prices until 2 days before the wedding.
- They didn't let us know until 4 days before the wedding that the vegetarian option (if it wasn't your main choice) would be chef's choice which forced me to have to re-print my menus last minute.
It was very clear from the moment that our down payment was paid that weddings are not the top priority for this golf course. If you do decide the risk is still worth the reward, please read the contract carefully and fully.
