Try before you buy
My experience started off well with Alyson (although more expensive than other vendors). I paid the deposit and went for my trial around 3 months before my wedding. The trial makeup and hair were not what I was expecting. I felt like I could have done my makeup better. (No setting powder was used. I wanted contour on my forehead and nose, but was told
"it was not needed". I looked extremely pale and my face ended up looking way more round than it normally is). I looked like a completely different person, and not in a good way! I ended up very disappointed and in a panic of what to do…after a long decision, I decided to email and cancel my booking. I sent a very polite email and did discuss a potential partial refund as I was just hoping to get back some of the over $600 that I had put in. The email was met with a complete lack of unprofessionalism. I was told that she was "horrified that I would cancel without communicating with her first", that "clearly I had already made my decision", that she is "heartbroken that (without any prior communication) I would cancel my booking". No one should be shamed for not liking the way something was done or made to feel guilty. I felt like I was getting bullied for trying to cancel. Needless to say I am VERY happy I cancelled when I did and didn’t allow my wedding day to have this grey cloud of disappointment over it. (I did not receive a refund as I had unfortunately signed a contract).

Your first review here was removed by WeddingWire because it was factually inaccurate (proven by emails). Though you are within your right to write a review, it has to be the truth and there are still many inaccuracies in your current review.
You left your trial happy, even smiling and posing for a picture for instagram and while I respect your decision to cancel your booking, I was still saddened by the tone and content of your communication. I always strive to maintain open and constructive dialogue with our clients, and I would have appreciated the opportunity to address any concerns you may have had before making the decision to cancel.
Unfortunately, there was no “discussion” about a potential refund, only you telling me to refund you with little to no information on why you were cancelling. In your second, email you implied you would write a bad review if I did not refund you (and you did!). Our policies are in place to ensure fairness and consistency for all our clients as well as protect our artists and clients.
As a small vendor, we pour our hearts into our business. While we respect your right to express your opinion in a review, we urge you to consider communicating directly with a business if you encounter any issues in the future and being truthful in all your reviews. We value honesty and transparency and believe that open dialogue is key to resolving any concerns amicably.
