My name is Kathleen (but most people call me Katie), and I am the founder and lead stylist behind Once Upon an Updo, a professional on-location bridal hairstyling service proudly serving the Greater Toronto Area, Niagara Region, Kawarthas, and beyond.

Since founding Once Upon an Updo in 2013, I have had the honour of helping hundreds of brides feel confident, beautiful, and truly themselves on one of the most meaningful days of their lives. With over 16 years of experience in the beauty industry, bridal hairstyling has become so much more than my profession — it is something I genuinely love and feel privileged to be part of.

I believe your wedding morning should feel exciting, calm, and stress-free, and my goal is to create a seamless beauty experience that allows you to relax, enjoy the moment, and feel fully cared for from the time we arrive until your final touch-up.

Amazing Service

Kathleen did an amazing job with my bridal hair! She perfectly captured my vision, making me feel beautiful and confident on my wedding day. Her attention to detail and skill were incredible—my hair stayed flawless all day! Kathleen was also such a calming presence, making the whole experience stress-free. Incredible energy, authentic, awesome!

Kathleen was such a wonderful part of the day. Her amazing and authentic energy started the day off so fun. As a person with natural curls, I was nervous about my hair style for the day and worried it wouldn't last/would be frizy. Kathleen rocked the hair trial and I was completely at ease for the wedding day! My hair was perfect all day long, and my new husband spent like 15 minutes helping me get bobby pins out of my super-secure hair. On top of that, Kathleen rolled with hiccups in schedule and last-minute changes, vibed with the other vendors, and really was a pleasure to have in the dressing room. She felt like an extra bridesmaid! I absolutely recommend working with Once Upon an Updo, you will NOT regret it.

THANK YOU!!! from the bottom of my heart. Kathleen, apart from my husband (lol) and mother, you were the highlight of my day. For anybody reading this review, please please trust me when I say Katie (Kathleen) is who you want to stand in line to book with. Her prices are great and she really made me feel like the most beautiful version of myself. She went above and beyond to fix my veil when it wasn’t cooperating, she even helped me steam it lol! Katie is the all in one package and I honestly wish I knew her outside of wedding wire. She’s excellent with what she does and she’s super down to earth. Please don’t hesitate to book with her asap

Katie is a dream!

Katie was an absolute pleasure to work with for my wedding. She was punctual, professional and just wonderful. My updo stayed put all night, it did not move though all the dancing, hugging and sweating. I would absolutely recommend her for your special day!

My bridal party and I had an amazing experience with Kathleen. She is a hoot to work with and is very professional and prompt! Her and Jacob did all of our hair (7 in total) in what felt like record time. They made it fun and entertaining! We all showed photos and they did exactly what we asked for, tweaking hair here and there based on what would look best on us. I wanted a bit of a change from my trial hair and Kathleen took my vision and I was so in love with my wedding day hair. Highly recommended!

Kathleen did two hair trials on me and did my hair and makeup on my wedding day. My makeup lasted the entire day and not one hair fell out of place

Amazing would 100% recommend. everyone complimented on how elegant my hair looked that night and kept asking who did my makeup for me

Absolutely amazing experience!

Kathleen did an absolutely amazing job on wedding hair with myself, Bridesmaids, mothers, grandmothers and flower girl! Her and her assistant, Jacob, were incredibly sweet, flexible, accommodating and had excellent attention to detail and everyone was so happy with how their hair turned out - including myself! It was exactly what I wanted. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Absolutely incredible!

I cannot say enough wonderful words about Kathleen, her work, and her team! Kathleen is incredibly professional and SO much fun to work with. She and her team made the morning of the wedding easy and laid back - exactly what I was looking for. Her hair and makeup work is beautiful and all of the girls were thrilled with their looks. Kathleen and Kristen at Once Upon an Updo are an amazing hair and makeup team! They are each able to perform both roles and can switch when needed to make sure the schedule for your event stays on track.

About a month before my wedding, I had a hair and makeup trial at my apartment to test out the desired look for the day. It took about two hours and they were both very thorough in playing with different looks for makeup and updo style. Afterwards, they were very responsive via Facebook regarding minor tweaks to my look, as well as discussing hair and makeup styles for my wedding party.

On the day of the wedding, they travelled to our hotel in Ajax and did a wonderful job not only executing the look we had planned together, but also the looks that my bridal party wanted and had not yet been able to test. They are also a bundle of fun and made getting ready for the day much less stressful.

I had considered doing my own hair and makeup, but when it comes down to it, it's really not worth the stress. Kathleen and Kristen will travel to you, bring everything you need, and do an amazing job for a very affordable price, giving you peace of mind and allowing you to actually enjoy the process of getting ready before your wedding!
