Terrible experience
Save yourself the stress and headaches—go with a true professional or an established bakery that can deliver a high-quality cake and good customer service.
I contacted Gabriela about nine months before my wedding. We clearly explained what we wanted, provided reference images, and shared our estimated guest count (based on invitations, not RSVPs yet). We also mentioned the wedding would be on a Sunday and end relatively early since guests had work the next day.
At first, things seemed fine. She provided a very basic contract (a photo or scan of a template filled in by hand). We even pointed out a pricing discrepancy where she had undercharged us by $100, as we wanted to be honest.
She made us a small sample cake—it was expensive, but it looked and tasted good. After that, communication became inconsistent. When we finally reconnected to discuss details, she didn’t seem to remember our earlier conversations and kept changing elements of the design. It started to feel like the cake was becoming what she wanted, not what we had agreed on.
Two weeks before the wedding, we reviewed everything again. I confirmed the guest count would actually be about one-third less than originally estimated. We also discussed delivery and placement at the venue. At that point, she suddenly asked if the cake was the main dessert or for a midnight table. I clarified again that it was the main dessert, as guests wouldn’t be staying late.
She then panicked and claimed the agreed cake size wouldn’t be enough, insisting we needed an additional cake—at a significant extra cost. This didn’t make sense given that our guest count had decreased. She referenced formulas she learned in school, but her explanation didn’t align with the situation. The conversation became increasingly aggressive.
At that point, my husband and I decided to go with an established bakery instead. They immediately offered a tasting and asked all the right questions: guest count, timing (main dessert vs. late-night), design, delivery, and setup. The service was professional, friendly, and reasonably priced—even on short notice during a busy weekend. (The cake turned out to be the same size we had agreed on with Gabriela and we actually ended up with lots of cake left over.)
We informed Gabriela that we no longer required her services. Unfortunately, we had just paid the second half of the balance. She reacted very poorly—becoming agitated, yelling at us, and behaving unprofessionally. She eventually agreed to refund the second payment, but kept the first.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Don’t be fooled by the attractive photos on her website and Instagram… Her service is unprofessional, disorganized, and difficult to deal with. I would strongly recommend choosing a reliable, well-established provider.
