Located in the heart of downtown Kitchener, St. Matthews Centre offers a distinctive setting for couples looking for a wedding venue with history, character, and exceptional live music.

Built in 1915, our neo-Gothic Sanctuary features soaring ceilings, beautiful woodwork, a grand piano, and a magnificent 3,000-pipe Casavant organ. With seating for up to 500 guests, the Sanctuary works equally well for intimate ceremonies and larger celebrations.

Facilities & Capacity

Our historic Sanctuary is the centrepiece of St. Matthews and provides a beautiful setting for wedding ceremonies. Its exceptional acoustics make it particularly well suited to live music, from a single instrumentalist or vocalist to a string quartet or larger ensemble.

For couples who would like to hold their reception onsite, St. Matthews offers two distinct reception spaces, each accommodating up to 100 guests.

Community Hall is a bright, open and versatile space that provides a clean backdrop for couples to make their own. Its flexible layout works well for dinner, dancing and celebrations, and can be transformed to suit a wide range of wedding styles.

Fellowship Hall offers something quite different. With its original architectural details, warm wood features, stage and the character that comes with a century-old building, the room has a more historic and intimate feel. It’s a great choice for couples who want their reception space to have personality of its own, while still offering the flexibility needed for dining, dancing and entertainment.

Having your ceremony and reception in the same building makes it easy for guests to move from one part of the celebration to the next without travelling to a second venue.

St. Matthews Centre is also an accessible venue, with power-door entrances, ramp and lift access, accessible washrooms, accessible parking, and hearing assistance available in the Sanctuary.

Live Music for Your Ceremony

Live music is one of the things that makes a wedding at St. Matthews particularly special.

Couples can arrange for music on our grand piano or historic Casavant pipe organ, including performances by St. Matthews' Music Director. Through our partnership with professional musicians from the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, couples can also add a solo orchestral musician, string quartet, or larger ensemble to their ceremony.

Whether you envision the sound of the organ filling the Sanctuary, a violin as you walk down the aisle, or a full string ensemble performing your favourite music, we can help you explore options that fit your ceremony.

St. Matthews Centre is located at 54 Benton Street in downtown Kitchener, within walking distance of hotels, restaurants, and other downtown amenities.

On-site parking is available, along with accessible parking spaces and additional parking in nearby municipal lots and garages.

Couples are welcome to book the Sanctuary for their ceremony or host both their ceremony and reception at St. Matthews Centre.
