When we were looking for venues for our destination wedding in Montréal, we struck absolute gold when we found Cabaret Lion d'Or. Just from looking at photos and videos, we knew this place possessed immense character and charm. But no image or video does justice to this magical space frozen in time. We had our jaws dropped the very first time we visited it, and we realized that Cabaret Lion d'Or is the perfect place for people who want to steer clear of a conventional wedding celebration.
Beyond being a beautiful and authentic 1930s Art Deco cabaret, it is easily the most efficient venue you could ask for, especially if you're planning a destination wedding. They handle the catering seamlessly, offering multiple delicious reception menus and appetizer alternatives created by the iconic French restaurant Au Petit Extra. They also feature a bar with spectacular cocktails and boast a top-tier sound and lighting system, along with a technical crew that transformed our wedding into a genuine, high-energy club and concert experience.
Our journey truly began when we connected with our adorable Lara Hurni (Event Coordinator). Her brilliant guidance, warm personality, and genuine openness to listening to our dream—and admittedly somewhat complex—"party plan" — made us realize instantly that the Cabaret was the perfect fit. Throughout the planning process, Lara constantly offered the best suggestions and industry contacts, vendors, making our celebration far better than we had originally envisioned. As a cherry on top, we were incredibly lucky that she also acted as our Stage Director on the wedding day itself, ensuring everything ran flawlessly while encouraging us to enjoy our celebration.
Lara and her team—including Guillaume (Technical Director), Zachary (Maitre D), and the entire staff—are remarkable for their kindness, genuine attention, and hospitality. Together, they made an unforgettable celebration possible. Our guests haven't stopped raving about the night, describing it as a wonderful exciting surprise, and the buzz hasn't died down yet!
This place and its people are pure magic. We will be forever grateful to have found this stunning venue and the incredible human beings who worked hard to bring a wedding for the books to life. -

The venue and staff were everything we could have possibly hoped for. So friendly and helpful with every step of the process. The venue itself is stunning without any need for additional decorations.
They worked with us to make any adjustments we requested, and the wedding itself went off without a hitch. We would recommend this venue to any interested in the cabaret vibe. -

When my husband and I found this venue we knew that we were meant to get married here. The cabaret history and the beauty of the space is simply perfect. Our experience was flawless. Laura, our banquet manager treated us so well. She was extremely flexible, and really understood how important this day was to us and made all our off the wall requests happen. The technical team was stellar and turned this beautiful space into a visually appealing dream. Our guests raved about the food and the service as well. Cabaret Lion D'or took our wedding from an idea to a complete experience. -

From the first meeting with Lara, you'll realize you're dealing with professionals. Lion d'Or's an almost all-inclusive venue; bring some centerpieces, a cake and an officiant and you’re good to go. We even hired our DJ through them, and she was great.
They’ve done bigger, more complicated events. They will pull off your wedding without a hitch, your guests will be amazed, it will be great and you’ll have amazing pictures. If you’re looking to minimize the headaches and stress of planning a wedding, this is the venue for you.
The venue is an old-school cabaret, with original art deco decoration. There's a fairly extensive "Backstage" area in the basement, with dressing rooms, private bathroom and a lounge area for the wedding party to get ready. The tunnel under the main hall allows you to move people from the back of the room to the stage out of sights of the guests - We had the bride come in through the restaurant, into the tunnel, the guests never saw her until she made her entrance. The entrance and main hall are beautifully decorated, we brough minimal decorations (A seating charts, centerpieces and an arch, basically).
We did both the ceremony and the reception in the hall. For the ceremony, we had the guests seated in front of the stage; the bridal party walked in from the back of the room and the ceremony took place on the stage. As soon as we were finished, staff was already circulating with signature cocktails (We went for the French 75) and appetizers for the cocktail reception. The staff somehow reconfigured the room from ceremony to banquet without anyone noticing.
For the meal, we had ten tables of ten guests each and a sweetheart table for the couple. The tables were large enough for that number, but I wouldn't recommend more than ten guests to a table. The food was excellent, sit-down restaurant quality, and the service (in both French and English) was impeccable. The waitstaff was extremely attentive; they made sure to bring the bride appetizers from the cocktail reception and covered the couple's meals with cloches when we were up and about visiting. The staff provides the kind of elevated, high class service one would expect in a black tie venue – you can’t see them, but they’ll be by your side before you realize you need anything. Truly a five star experience.
Once the meal was over, the staff moved the sweetheart table out of the way and we had our dance floor. Having a lighting technician on duty makes an incredible difference, the venue went from romantic old school cabaret to chic night club as the night went on. Many of our friends described it as the greatest party they’ve ever attended.
The bar is fully staffed, and the bartenders are professionals. We had the premium open bar drink package, and none of the guests had to wait for their drinks; the bartenders pour and mix very well.
We served the cake at a “self-serve” table, and that led to the one logistical hiccup of the night – none of the front of house staff had experience cutting a multi-tiered cake. This one is on us, though; the event coordinator had warned us this might be the case. Thankfully one of our guests had some experience in the matter and the situation was resolved with a smile.
Finally, we’d chosen poutine for the midnight buffet; the poutine was possibly the best we’ve ever had.
We dispatched a few friends to the venue as soon as doors opened to set up the centerpieces, arch and seating chart / place cards, the staff was extremely helpful with the set up and our advance team was done setting up long before the bridal party was on the way to the venue. Wrap up and clean up was handled completely by the staff; we came back on the Monday to pick up the decorations that had been left behind.
Seriously, this might be the easiest place to have a classy, unforgettable wedding for 100 guests in Montreal.
