We had a wonderful experience hosting our wedding at The Butternut Tree. From start to finish, the BNT and Samantha, the event manager, went above and beyond to ensure our wedding was excellent.
Samantha was organized, responsive, and guided us through the planning process. The other event staff were warm, professional, and attentive. The day went flawlessly from ceremony to reception. The food was great too, which included canapes, sour dough, cedar plank salmon, Alberta beef duo, and carrot cake – our guests loved it. There were so many thoughtful, personal touches throughout the planning experience and wedding day that made everything feel seamless and allowed us to be present and enjoy :)
We are so grateful to Samantha and the entire team for making our wedding day so special. We could not recommend the BNT enough!

An Incredible Team That Made Our Day Stress-Free from Start to Finish!
We were married at The Butternut Tree in May 2025, and we truly couldn’t have chosen a better venue. From start to finish, everything was exceptional, and the team there played a huge role in making our day smooth, joyful, and unforgettable.
The people:
The staff were incredible. Samantha, the event manager, was an absolute dream to work with. She guided us through the planning process with kindness, clarity, and expertise, ensuring everything ran flawlessly on the big day. Her calm, organized approach gave us so much peace of mind, and we always felt supported and heard. The wait staff and bartender at our reception were equally amazing, being highly attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure everyone had a great time.
Our guests even commented on how fun it was to see the staff feel the energy during the dance party at the end of the night, which only added to the celebration. Samantha also went above and beyond by being flexible with decor pickup times, so we didn’t have to stress about gathering everything immediately after the wedding, a small detail that made a big difference for our peace of mind.
The food and drinks:
We opted for a tasting menu, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our guests are still raving about the dishes and cocktails months later! One of our favorite parts of planning was collaborating with Samantha and the team to design the menu. They were open to all of our ideas, offering plenty of feedback. They even constructively countered some of our initial requests, and after discussing it together, we followed their recommendation and they were absolutely right. The end result was beyond anything we could have imagined.
We also had canapés with champagne right after the ceremony, which were perfect for keeping guests refreshed and mingling while we took the post-ceremony photos. Later during the reception, the cocktails were a huge hit. Notably, the Alpine Meadow (the Groom's choice), made with Ungava gin, was such a standout that some family members have since started buying Ungava. The June Berry (Bride's Choice) was also refreshing and delicious, and the mojitos were the crowd favorite.
For our late-night snack, we went with poutine and churros. Everything was delicious, but the churros were truly exceptional. If you are on the fence, go with the churros at the least, we highly recommend them!
Samantha and the team were also very flexible when it came to setting up the bar. We chose to have an open bar, but opted for wine service during dinner to be charged based on bottles opened, rather than having full bottles sitting on each table. This prevented waste and kept things efficient while still ensuring guests had a great experience.
The venue and atmosphere:
The space itself was absolutely stunning. Having both our ceremony and reception in one location made the day much easier. The seamless transition between the two allowed our friends and family to relax and enjoy the day without needing to help with setup or cleanup as the staff handled everything perfectly.
The decor was beautifully executed, from the arch and flowers to the plants and overall layout. The ceremony felt warm and elegant, and the reception space was equally inviting and thoughtfully arranged. We also loved having a private dining area for staging which was incredibly helpful for us, and also gave our officiant and photography team a comfortable space to prepare and rest as needed. This thoughtful touch made everyone feel respected and supported, which contributed to how smoothly the day ran.
One small but fun detail our guests loved was being able to peek into the kitchen between courses. It built anticipation for each dish, and my cousin, who is a professional chef, couldn’t stop commenting on the equipment, and how efficient and well-organized the kitchen team was.
The natural light and gorgeous view of the Legislature created a stunning backdrop for both the ceremony and the reception. Our photos turned out beautifully, and it was so convenient to step across the street to the park for even more beautiful shots.
Little extras that made it special:
The wireless projector was a fantastic feature for the games we played during the reception. For prizes, we offered jars of pickles and preserves made in-house by The Butternut Tree which was a fun and personal touch that our guests loved.
Final thoughts:
Looking back, we couldn’t be happier with our decision to celebrate at The Butternut Tree. From the outstanding service to the unforgettable food and drinks, every detail came together perfectly. Samantha, the Chef, and the entire team created an atmosphere where we didn’t have to worry about a thing and we could simply be present and enjoy our day.
We are very grateful to everyone at The Butternut Tree for helping make our wedding not only stress-free but truly magical. If you are looking for an intimate venue that combines incredible food, beautiful views, and a team that genuinely cares, this is absolutely the best place in Edmonton. -

The Butternut Tree was a dream wedding venue to work with. The setting is beautiful, and needs minimal decorations. The food and drinks were the most important part to us and they were executed amazingly. The service during the event was top notch. The planning process was very smooth, organized and fun! I really appreciated how quickly Samantha would get back to us about questions throughout the planning process. The set up and take down services were ideal for us, every little detail was taken care of and our friends and family were able to also enjoy and relax the entire day as well. We do not have anything we would change about our experience having our wedding at The Butternut Tree and we would recommend it to any couple who is seeking a elevated intimate wedding venue. -

Wow! The most beautiful venue
This venue had it all! The amazing food, small and intimate venue and breathtaking views! From start to finish our day of coordinator with The Butternut Tree was so attentive and amazing! The severs and staff day of truly made the experience that much better! I cannot thank The Butternut Tree enough for everything they made our day that much more amazing! -

We picked the Butternut Tree Restaurant as our wedding venue (July 29 2023) and they did an amazing job!!! Their wedding planner, Samantha, was so helpful and Chef Scott Downey and his team showcasing and delivering amazing appetizers, food and drinks for our event. We had so many compliments on the venue, food and experience I would recommend them to everyone. I also liked that they were centrally located downtown, had large windows, a rustic feel and panoramic view of the Legislature Building, bridge and park. A night to remember. Thank you!!! -

Wonderfully perfect
We had both our ceremony and wedding at this venue.
Sam at the Butternut Tree is a gift to all brides. She is there to provide you with recommendations and ensures you stay on schedule with your planning.
The simple fact that the venue did all the set up, transitions, take down and cleaning was a huge selling factor for us
But truthfully, it’s the staff. The Butternut Tree staff is incredible. They’re just as excited to be there as you are, and that makes the day so much more wonderful -
