20 Oct, 2017The story of our wedding
We had an amazing wedding and I’m so excited to share all the details with you so that perhaps you can have the perfect wedding too! If you continue reading below, I’ve listed all the vendors we used for our wedding. Strange enough, we didn’t have one bad experience. Weird, right? But amazing for us! I highly highly highly recommend all the venues below. Our wedding was incredible – it was a flawless, beautiful, dreamy night and I can tell you – it’s mainly due to the vendors we used.
We chose to get married at the Cambridge Mill on October 19, 2017. It’s a beautiful venue that overlooks the Grand River, and seems to be becoming quite popular these days! It’s a pricy venue, but totally worth the money spent. We worked with Amanda Babcock from the initial day of booking, right up until 10 days before our wedding. She helped us book our tasting, figure out the big and small details, answer any questions we had (trust me, I always had tons of random questions, and she always answered my e-mails right away), and much more. Somewhere along the line, the Mill actually raised their prices and changed their menu offering, however I asked Amanda if we could keep the original menu in which we signed up for, and she had no problem with reverting back to it, which was fantastic. They accommodated our wishes of having sparklers at the end of the night, a different appetizer for myself (because I’m a picky eater), and even decorating the day before.

We had two people with us all night (one was named Bailey, the other I can’t remember her name) but both were amazing and extremely helpful. You never think you’ll need that extra person on your wedding day, but trust me – there’s always something.
The wedding suite was a beautiful room to get my dress on, and the entire venue and premise is picture perfect. My MOH’s dress actually broke, and the Mill went out of their way to help sew it together.
The guests at our wedding continue to rave about the food, and so do we. It was fantastic. We’ve heard numerous times ‘best food I’ve ever had at a wedding’. We chose to go with the package that allowed our guests to choose their entrée, but I’m sure if you chose another package it would still be equally delicious.
Cambridge Mill really is a fantastic venue to get married at if you are hoping for amazing pictures, mouth savoring food, incredible service, and a wedding that no-one including yourself will ever forget. I could say so much more, but then at that point I may as well write and sell the novel!
Our photographer was Jeremy James Photography. Again, like the venue – I really can’t say enough good things. He’s phenomenal, and I’m the happiest bride in the world that I chose him to cover our special day. I can’t attest to what his prices are now, as they may have changed – but when we hired him they were extremely reasonable. Jeremy is a standup guy, he’s super fun to be arounds, he is very directional in his picture taking and knows what looks good. He makes people feel comfortable when taking pictures, and most importantly his skills are unreal. I can’t imagine hiring anyone else to cover my wedding photos. He really goes out of his way to take extremely amazing incredible photos – I highly suggest contacting him, although I know he books up extremely quickly.
We chose to go with From the Potting Shed to be our florist. They often do work with Cambridge Mill, so from our very initial meeting, I felt confident that they knew the venue well. Their prices were reasonable, and competitive compared to other florists – and Elaine, Nicole and their team really seemed to know what they were talking about with the flowers. They give you this ‘flower party’ where you’re supposed to choose the type of flowers you want, colours etc. they go through every detail to ensure you’re confident with your choices. Leading up to my wedding day, about 15 days – I did a stupid thing, and went on Google to look at the reviews again. Unfortunately, this company had a ton of bad reviews which made me die a little inside. I remember panicking and telling everyone how worried I was that my flowers were going to turn out like poop. However, come the wedding day, I went into the reception room to see my beautiful centerpieces – 14 tall centerpieces in clear vases, and my beautiful massive garland with an abundance of flowers, as requested. I was so happy and still am that they made everything I wanted come true. To this day, about 6 days later, the roses that were in centerpieces, at the head table, at the signing table, in the big vases etc. still are alive. That just goes to show the quality of flowers they use. Incredible. I highly suggest working with this company. They may not have the best communication always, but in terms of product, fantastic!
We chose to use Brentwood Limousine for our transportation. We hired them for 4+ hours to be our shuttle service (we booked the 30+person limobus). The limobus was so pretty inside, clean and big. The driver was the nicest person I’ve ever met (no, seriously). And the price was very fair; actually it was almost cheaper compared to most. The limo company was very flexible (I think we changed the pick up time 3 times, including up to an hour before pick up). This company really cares about their clients, they called me a day before to wish me a nice wedding day, and I just felt confident in their services. They were great and I highly suggest them.
We went with the in house DJ of Cambridge Mill – Copeland. They were great – and service other venues as well, but I do believe they book up quickly. This DJ company will meet with you in person and go over a form to ensure you cover all details, even the smallest ones. You’re able to make your own playlist for cocktails and dinner (if you want) or you don’t have too! Come the day of, they did a great job at playing our ‘must play songs’ and ensuring they pronounced everyone’s names properly, playing the right kind of music and most importantly keeping the dance floor packed all night long! I highly suggest checking this company out.
I chose to use the company MakeUp Worx for our hair and make-up. They travel to you but also have an inhouse studio. They use airbrush, which is incredible and makes everything flawless. Monica, Missy, Michelle and one more hair individual met us at 9am in our two suites and did an incredible job. They worked well with what my 6 bridesmaids + Mom + mother in law wanted both for hair and make up. They work amazing with very “picky” individuals, and kept an amazing composure at those times when most people would want to say “shut up!!!”. To top it all off, they made me looking incredible! Missy’s amazing makeup skills, mixed with Michelle’s perfect hair styling skills topped off with a glowing tan from Tan on the Run created my dream look. I received so many compliments (as do all brides) but the difference was, I myself felt incredible. Feeling and looking incredible, truly makes your one special day feel that much better. Makeup Worx & Tan On The Run are the perfect team to make your dreams come true on your special day, to make your beauty you already have shine even more, and to make you feel comfort and excited not only on your wedding day, but leading up to it too.
I got my dress from Blu Ivory which is a small boutique in Toronto. The manager Madison is amazing and helped me from the start- where I chose my dress, to my two fittings, to my pick up! I’m in love with my dress and I loved this boutique, it’s so cute, prices are fair and the staff is incredible. Check it out, I’m sure it won’t disappoint you.
We also chose to buy our bridesmaid dresses from Jealous Bridesmaids. They were great – they had a variety of designers, reasonable prices, and the dresses came in fairly fast. If you’re looking for a place with tons of colour and style option, this is the place to go!
So, I didn’t use anything or anyone in particular for my décor. The way I wanted to decorate was simple and romantic. I put 10 candles at every table (max allowed at the Mill) and a tall centerpiece at every table. For the guest book, I chose to use have a drawing of us made, where people would finger stamp it and sign their names. The stamps turned into a balloon illusion. Very pretty and we now can hang it on our wall for everyone to see. I had a bunch of things calligraphied by a company called ‘Always Arielle Designs’. Incredible! Highly recommend. For my seating box, I used the Greenhouse you can buy from Ikea. My brother made my easels out of copper for a different look – I loved it! For my head table I had a massive garland that flowed off the table but had amazing beautiful flowers in it. So pretty. Everything again was kept simple, romantic and elegant, just the way I wanted.
