25 Sep, 2021The story of our wedding
My husband and I were engaged in 2019 and started planning our wedding. We had all these grand ideas and immediately started booking things. We signed our vendor contract and I bought my dress. And then COVID happened. Immediately we started reframing our plans and decided we would have two weddings. In May of 2020, we had a small, backyard ceremony with my husband’s immediate family in attendance and my family via FaceTime (they were in the US and they weren’t able to cross the border). It was lovely and all come together nicely. We had a ring exchange, a lovely time getting ready, a great dinner, and Tank Garage Winery out of California was generous enough to send us some “Love Now More Than Ever” wine. It was the perfect way to kickoff the start our married life together. Now it was on to planning our day in front of friends and family. We already had the venue, the dress, and our guest list ready. The next big thing was selecting a date. We chose September 25 to try and be as far out as possible from COVID restrictions. But we also wanted to prepare in case there were capacity restrictions, so we decided to book a fun morning with our bridal party just in case the rest didn’t end up happening. The good news: our day went off with very limited restrictions (no dancing outside of the first dance) and in even better news, the just-in-case morning we had planned was one of the best parts of our morning. The day started getting ready. We had a lovely time with Alison at the Love Team. She was great and did an amazing job making us all look beautiful. Then, it was off to take Seaplanes up to a secluded spot where my husband and I have a lot of memories (and one of our first dates)! You can only access this place by boat or plane so it seemed like a no brainer to take a plane. We flew up and landed at the dock where we did our first look photos. And then we spent the morning roaming around the grounds and taking photos with our bridal party.

They took our bridal party on a harbour cruise and took us to our ceremony and reception destination, the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. It was a lovely cruise filled with the best people and a lot of love. Once we arrived, we went upstairs, touched up our hair and makeup and got ready for the ceremony. We had a small ceremony with our closest family and friends. Sharing our vows and our rings in the presence of our loved ones was so special.
Then it was time for some photos and a cocktail hour with delicious food and drinks. Following that, it was time for the ceremony. Due to covid restrictions, indoor dancing or mingling was very limited so we had a lot of games planned in case the night started to fizzle. The good news is that we didn’t even need them. Between amazing speeches, first dances, delicious food, and catching up with loved ones (some of whom we hadn’t seen in a couple of years), the night was incredible and there was no need for games. I couldn’t have asked for a better day or better people to share our love with.
