3 Oct, 2020The story of our wedding
Curtis and I got engaged in a simple way. We were cuddled on the couch, watching my favourite movie, during the movie Curtis got popcorn and unknown to me, my engagement ring. As a lover of food, I was oblivious to the ring that was right in front of me and ate some popcorn. After a while, he asked me how long I saw us being together. Of course, I said that I hope for forever, he agreed. Then I finally noticed the ring and proceeded to turn 50 shades of red that I am so oblivious.
A year and a half later we had a small wedding of 50 people in Oshawa, ON. We were originally set for 140 people but had to reduce significantly due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead of cancelling, we decided to go with it and make our wedding happen safely and with our love evident in everything we did. We made hand sanitizer bottles for every table, bowls for the garter toss and bouquet toss to pull names from, individualized pens for people to sign our guest board, masks available for guests who forgot and personalized masks for the bridal party. We love fall and decided that we wanted to showcase the beautiful fall colours at our wedding. Our colours were burgundy, yellow, gold and navy blue, with the natural reds, yellows, and orange of the season, they were picture perfect. Our bridesmaids were dressed in beautiful burgundy, tulle gowns that they chose themselves. We recognized that our bridesmaids have different body styles and preferences so they all chose different dresses to make them feel gorgeous! Our groomsmen were dressed handsomely in navy blue suits and burgundy ties that the groom knotted himself. Each groomsman had a piece of our loved ones who passed with them in the form of a personalized handkerchief, watch, ring or cufflinks that they had passed on to us. We know they would have been there with us if they were not taken so soon. I wore my great grandmother's amethyst necklace and earrings that have been worn at every wedding in our family, it was the perfect something old and borrowed that I could have chosen.Despite the changes, I wouldn't change the day one bit. I got to marry the love of my life and my very best friend.
