20 May, 2017The story of our wedding
It was the best day of our lives! From the venue, the food, the music, down to all the little decor details; our wedding day reflected who we are as a couple.
The months and months of preparation leading up to our special day was worth it, ten-fold. We meticulously researched, interviewed, and chose each vendor with the confidence that they would bring our vision of a romantic, intimate and whimsical wedding to life!
To set the tone of our wedding, we chose a local calligrapher, who created beautiful and classic invitations which we embossed our wedding monogram on, and sealed each envelope with a personal picture postage stamp and a custom wax seal.
To play up our whimsical theme, we chose to have our baker create a four tiered naked wedding cake with two custom flavours that we both loved from our childhood; peanut butter banana, and chocolate peanut butter. Our wedding favours were cake popsicles made of banana fudge.
The morning of our special day, I remember waking up feeling different; like somehow, my soul knew it would be bound to another; having a partner for life. While my soon-to-be husband and his brother (Best Man) got ready in our home, my sister (Matron of Honour) and I got ready at The Ivy at Verity hotel. This luxury four-room boutique hotel would also serve as our First Look location and honeymoon suite.
Continue reading »My wedding gown was a fitted trumpet style dress by Rivini, from Kleinfeld's. It was French alcenon lace throughout with silk tissue organza ruffled at the bottom. I chose simple and delicate earrings from Samantha Wills and threw on a romantic capelet from BHLDN for the ceremony.
My groom's suit and tie were from Suit Supply. Those gorgeous deep blue and burgundy rich tones provided just the right contrast to my light and airy dress and bouquet.
Living in the beautiful city of Toronto, Jay and I knew that we would choose a venue that reflected our tastes and lifestyle. Archeo Trattoria, an intimate restaurant with it's own private courtyard was the perfect place to say our I do's. Located in the Distillery District, it would be the most picturesque location to snap some beautiful photos upon Victorian heritage buildings and cute little cobblestone lanes.
Jay, my husband, and I chose vintage gold decor pieces, like our glass card box and ornate gold framed mirrors, along with romantic florals to showcase the beauty of the exposed brick detail in our venue. The guests tables were arranged harvest style and we decided to keep the centerpieces as low as possible to create intimacy in the space. We chose lush vine greenery mixed with roses and orchids, intertwined with twinkle lights and pillar candles. The head table featured a hanging floral arrangement with twinkle lights dangling from it.
The day has come, and on Saturday May 20th, 2017, in front of 90 of our closest family and friends, I was fortunate enough to marry the Love of my life. The processional for the Groom and the bridal party was 'Baby I'm Yours' by Arctic Monkeys. My bridal entrance was to the tune of 'Sea of Love' by Cat Power. Walking down the aisle, I could feel the importance of each step I took; I was walking towards my future.
The ceremony was short and sweet, but very meaningful for us. We were lucky enough to choose an officiant who really listened to our ideas and we were able to create the wedding ceremony of our dreams. Walking down the aisle, hand in hand for the first time as husband and wife, 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole plays in the background, and it's a moment that I will remember forever.
Jay and I specifically requested to have a few moments to ourselves immediately following the ceremony. I think it was important to us to reflect on what we had just experienced together and to take it all in. I remember being ushered into the reception space with my new husband and exclaiming, "Surprise!". I had booked our favourite instrumental hip hop/R&B/neo soul band to play during cocktail hour. He hugged me and we both cried.
It is true - what couples say after their weddings. The day does go by so fast and I'm sure as time goes on, you forget all the little details. What I hope to remember and cherish for all time, is the love we felt. It radiated through the entire day and night - through the music carefully curated for us, the three course meal skillfully prepared for us, through our guests celebrating this milestone with us, and through our eternal vows we have made to each other.
