When I decided I wanted to do an intimate elopement this year I really didn't know how everything would work out on such short notice. I happened upon Katie's instagram and fell in love with her photography (seriously, check it out!!). When I approached Katie with my timeline and vision, she was quick to respond and walked through all the details with me which was so appreciated. On the day of my wedding, Katie was more than just a photographer - she was so personable and felt like a longtime friend or family member, and even helped me get into my dress! While taking photos, she made my husband and I feel so comfortable (having never done a photoshoot before), and the results were amazing!! Our sneak peek photos were sent out to us within only a day or two and included such a wide selection of photos to allow us to share some right away and reminisce. The remainder of the photos (and there were TONS) came only a few weeks after. Everyone who has seen our wedding photos has complimented her beautiful work. Seriously just hire her! Katie is outstanding in every sense, incredibly talented and an absolute gem! To the point that I have a write a review even before she’s captured our wedding - this is one vendor you should not pass up having a part of your team.
Recently we had our engagement season with Katie in beautiful Hardy Lake Provencal Park and we cannot stop GUSHING over these photos. Katie is professional, super easy going, personable and went above and beyond our expectations. From two people who are incredibly awkward when it comes to photo’s we had very little few ideas on what wanted. Katie recommended locations, times (for best lighting), captured the most beautiful photos and moments I didn’t even know happened.
We are so grateful that she is a part of our team and cannot wait to have her at our wedding! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Katie is a nice girl but I would not call her a professional photographer. More hobbiest trying to make a career of photography that she doesn’t have the qualifications for.
My fiancé and I’s engagement shoot was a joke. She made little effort to stage us for images and spent a great deal of time on Pinterest trying to find images for inspiration. (Something that should have been planned prior to our session)
When she sent our photos back to us within a week, non were edited beyond some changed to black and white.
Moving forward to us having to reschedule our wedding due to the pandemic she was less than accommodating. She refused to do any partial refunds of our deposit and finally agreed to a laughable amount back after a great deal of coaxing. (Less than one third of our deposit and charged for our complimentary engagement shoot $400.)
Than she proceeded to complain about the time she has had to spend finding adequate insurance for our venue. Blaming us for not informing her upon being hired. In my opinion as a business maybe that should be a question asked before taking on a client. Not professional.

Hi Victoria!
You’re right, I have just finished school so I am just starting out and I am new to owning a business. I actually went to university to study a BASc and then followed up with a diploma in photography. I have also been spending much of my income from my first year of business investing in my education and business in relation to photography.
I’m so sorry to hear you felt this way about your engagement session. The way I work is not by posing couples - I prefer to give couples prompts and have them moving around to get those real emotions out. I will admit being at an amusement park for your session was a bit out of my comfort zone. I typically work outdoors in nature, so I did make make a list of prompts I wanted to try while we were there and referenced them when I felt the need to do so. I’m quite surprised to hear you felt this way though as I received a text from you saying “The photos look great thank you for getting them back to us so fast”. I really wish I knew about this back in January. As the winter is my slow season, I only had a few engagement sessions that month. The editing of your photos was not rushed, each one was fully edited the same way I edit every other session - which is what appears all over my Instagram and website. I was able to sit down and only work on your photos that week and get them back to you sooner than I would in my busy season.
I did send out an email to all of my 2020 couples in March when I realized the pandemic would likely affect everyone this year in one way or another. I told all of my couples that I would be more than happy to work with them to reschedule their date to another date later this year or next year that I had available - this way they would not have to lose their retainer. We’re all going though this crazy time together right now and unfortunately, this means flexibility from both parties when rescheduling if concerned about your non refundable retainer. I was not available for your new 2021 date you booked. I was still open to looking at other dates with you but you said it was already set in stone. As I explained in our previous emails, the non refundable retainer is what pays for my services and time spent behind the scenes that are already completed (such as your engagement session).
I’m sorry you felt that I was complaining about the time I spent talking to an insurance broker and your venue. It was not meant that way, I was just explaining to you all of the things I have done that you may not have known about since you didn’t seem to understand why the full retainer could not be returned to you. Your venue did require an increase in liability from other venues and I was working to fix the problem without you having to get involved or put any added stress on you!
Again I’m so sorry that you feel this way about our time working together. I appreciate your feedback - it’s what helps me in growing my business. Please let me know if you still have any questions/ concerns.

Amazing Photographer!
We hired Katie for our wedding and the package included engagement photos as well! All I can say is WOW! From day one Katie was amazing to work with, from responding to emails to making us feel comfortable while taking photos, she did a great job. The photos themselves turned out absolutely amazing and exactly how I hoped they would. She captured the essence of what we wanted to remember about the day and every time I look at the photos I feel like I’m right back there again - as I feel it should be with any photo. Katie was fun to work with and never made us feel rushed or uncomfortable. I would recommend Katie to anyone as she exceeded what we ever hoped for!Katie O'Brien Photography's reply:

Your search ends here!! Katie was so much fun to work with - her easy-going personality makes you feel so comfortable. She really cares about her clients (she reached out multiple times to offer vendor suggestions and checked in on my well-being during the pandemic). She goes above and beyond with everything she does, and she gets your pictures back quickly and they look incredible.

Excellent Photographer
Absolutely amazing experience working with Katie O’Brien - she was flexible with our busy schedules, she includes a free engagement shoot when booked for a wedding and she is so creative with the poses she had us do! The quality and quantity of the photos we received was incredible! We were able to choose whichever photos we liked best to print and there were plenty to choose from!
Katie is so easy going, friendly and professional - she was always quick with her responses to us and kept us in the loop on when we would receive our photos!
The value for her service was excellent!!
I would definitely recommend her for anyone wishing to have professional photos taken!
