Easy and organized!

Our caterer was a preferred vendor of our venue and for good reason. Gillian was lovely, organized and very understanding and helpful about our budget! I loved it and would recommend!

Satisfying and delicious experience

The vendor we spent the most time working with, and one with the flexibility, supplies, and ability to do so. Railtown's one stop shop for all supplies related to eating, including staff, food, furniture and dining ware made our lives much easier. Our coordinator was also right there with our many drafts and changes. Highly recommend!

So delicious!!!

When we started planning our wedding, I looked into a couple caterers and received a few sample menus. Right from the start Railtown was great to work with and the sample menu sounded delicious. We went to a family members wedding in 2019 and Railtown was their caterer. The food was so flavourful and memorable. Once we found this out, we knew Railtown had to be our caterer.
Stefanie and the Railtown team was an absolute pleasure to work with from the tasting all the way to the day of! After the tasting, we knew whatever we couldn't go wrong with any of the options. We had many email exchanges as we made a plan, which was then adjusted many times due to Covid restrictions but Stefanie was amazing!
Everything was so flavourful and fresh. Many of our guest came up to us and said "the best food I have ever eaten!", "I hate brussels sprouts but I ate two plates!" or "Fish isn't my thing, but the ling cod was my favourite of the night!".
We still talk about about amazing the food was at our families wedding in 2019 and I know guests will talk about the food at ours.

Incredible Food, Best Service

We had so many compliments from our guests about the food, bar service, and all aspects of Railtown’s catering. Stefanie was a dream to work with and we were so well taken care of! We love barbecue, and this was the best brisket we’d ever had.

Nightmare to Avoid!! Extreme cost increases & lots of problems...

Wedding Review - Nightmare Vendor to Avoid!
So my wedding is over and due to work/life I’m not writing as many reviews as I planned. However, I do feel the need to WARN future brides and couples about a nightmare vendor. Railtown Catering is a Vancouver based catering company that is both expensive and has many positive reviews. We chose them after an excellent tasting in September 2018. They also catered my brother-in-law’s wedding several years ago which was excellent. We signed the contact in October 2018 and so began the nightmare…
Railtown catering has undergone extreme staff turnover. We had FOUR account executive changes in the seven months before our wedding. Our Account Executive was not confirmed until 16 days before our wedding day. Railtown also charges a 20% fee to handle and coordinate rentals, linens etc. This never happened. At the end of April, we needed to go to A&B Rentals ourselves because Railtown still did not have a correct (or even close to correct!) order reserved. Yet, they still charged us over $600 for “Rental Handling”.
On a personal note, I’m a professional analyst and very adept at spreadsheets. I had to complete TWO six-hour reviews of Railtown’s orders and massive price increases to fix their mistakes. For example, they forgot to order dessert trays, had double ordered (and were double charging) for serving platters, were missing things like cutlery off the initial contract, ice buckets etc. I cannot stress enough it was a disaster.
The most important reason, however, that I’m writing this review is due to cost & breach of contract. To be clear, our menu, guest count & all the details a bride & groom could reasonably provide never changed from the first meeting to our wedding day. However, between our first coordinator and our last coordinator, they legally broke the contract.
The contract we signed with Railtown in October was for $8,952.54 (for 70 people – 60 adults and 10 kids). They TRIED to force us to sign a new proposal sent on June 26th for $11,271.33 (26% increase). They actually said if we didn't submit a new deposit based on this arbitrary proposal we never signed or agreed to they would cancel our contract and retain the deposit 15 days before our wedding. After meeting with Dan the owner, the most they were willing to do was a new price of: $10,222.60 (14% increase). This is to provide the same menu & services as our initial contract & price. They tried to justify the price increase due to mistakes they made (we forgot to include the correct number of ice buckets, we left off staff overtime, we made mistakes on food quantity etc. etc.) EITHER their team is incompetent or they are actively operating in bad faith to secure contracts & hold couples hostage before their weddings.
Following all the turmoil, stress, increased cost & extra meetings to deal with staff changes, the wedding was also not perfect. They didn’t bring enough BBQ’s to adequately cook & bring out food on time. The food table was empty the entire day. They also changed the recipe for the bison slider to include horseradish instead of tomato jam & most of the guests (including me the bride) don’t like horseradish.
The canapes were delicious and the chefs are talented, but there are several excellent caterers in Vancouver. Railtown is NOT worth the trouble or money. I will never use again & strongly recommend avoiding!!

It was amazing! We spent so much time deciding on the menu since we had to accommodate gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy free etc. dietary restrictions for some of our guests and they were great. They helped us develop a menu that went through many changes (some very last minute) and were very flexible and game to try new things for us. We had 40 guests. The service was excellent and the food was perfect. Our guests all loved everything from the canapes to the mains.
