Can't I just freeze the top tier of my cake???
The tradition of freezing the top tier of a wedding cake was created when wedding cakes were all made of fruit cake, which freezes very well. With the sponge type of cake that brides are using these days freezing isn't a great idea. Especially after being in your freezer for a year the cake is bound to be dry and not too tasty.
