Sent on 02/02/2019

Great Venue but Service Needed Work
The beginning process of choosing whether we wanted the venue or not was exceptional. We started looking early which helped but the associate showed us around and answer all our questions nicely. We allowed to visit one more than one occasion and was well informed on things that were going to change between when we visited and the actual day of the wedding. Sometime after booking and before the wedding day, there was a personnel change and we were advised as soon as it happened so that we can continue the planning with this new individual, Jeannot Rathé. This was appreciated since we could adjust accordingly.
Leading to the wedding day, Jeannot was very accommodating. We were able to come by to double check a few things, pick up vases for our custom centerpieces and drop off supplies the day before. Putting down the deposit was easy and paying the two halves, one before the wedding and one after the honeymoon went smoothly. We were able to communicate what we wanted and Jeannot was able to answer what Hillsdale could and couldn’t do so there was dialogue which put us at ease.
The venue is beautiful. We had our reception only and by this time, the grounds are not being used as much and in the evening, we have the location to ourselves. The cocktail area extends to a balcony area looking out at the course which just invites people to relax, converse and enjoy wherever they feel more comfortable. The reception hall is a nice space with an area that is naturally fit for a stage, i.e. a focal point. The back portion of the hall is set of large windows looking out onto the course with a center window that was used as the backdrop of our center table. Location was clean and beautifully set. There is plenty of parking and getting there from the city is not as daunting as it may sound when you say Mirabel. It is only a few turns from the highway.
The food tasted great. The food tasting was a smooth experience with Jeannot having a table setup for my wife and me to experience what it would be like to dine in the hall. Jeannot worked with our budget to craft a menu that was suitable for our party so it was nice to have options as opposed to having only a turnkey option only.
My only real issue with Hillsdale is unfortunately a large one. Our wedding was handed off to another employee. When we dropped off the majority of the supplies the day prior to the wedding, he didn’t help that much despite the large amount of things that we brought over and he seemed unsure of what to do. Let’s just say, the service left much to be desired.
On the day of the wedding, I was frustrated to find out multiple things wrong. I had sent specific instructions ample time before the day to revise and comment and reminded them of such document. For instance, when we dropped off the centerpieces, they were all numbered for specific tables and then they were not in the right place when I and my party arrived; my best man had to re-arrange. The hall was not ready right away despite them having a full day to prepare since there was no event happening the evening before (since I noted that they were setting up for my wedding when we dropped of our stuff the day before). When it was time to cut the cake, they had trouble finding the cake (which was also just dropped off the day before). All this to say that my mother and my wedding party which are all guests were more involved than they should have been considering the amount of advance notice I had given them. I provided details on décor and scheduling and the worse part was that he did not seem active or proactive they day of in trying to resolve issues, get feedback or prepare for the different activities going on throughout the night. One should not be surprised when the details were discussed, written down and sent beforehand and one should look busier with an event that has a lot of moving parts.
I would recommend Hillsdale as it is a beautiful and more private place to have reception. The food and service was good but I would recommend making sure that the organization team is truly well prepared. It is unfortunate since we planned for our wedding helpers to be less involved during the reception portion of our wedding day since we felt like we equipped Hillsdale and they were equipped for the responsibility. This may be an edge case for Hillsdale but it is one that comes to my mind looking back on my wedding day.Sent on 05/01/2019
