13 Jul, 2019The story of our wedding
We knew from the beginning that we wanted to celebrate with our closest family and friends. We have been together 12 years this year, a lot of people and not just us have been patiently waiting for this day. We started planning. In March of this year we found out that life decided to throw us a little bundle of a curve ball... we are expecting. I already had a dress, what about my bachelorette party? Wait... my 30th and our wedding day. We were so excited all that did not matter.
We continued with planning, I found a second dress and our dreams of having an intimate summer evening wedding took off. We did our first look at Bill's parent's farm - they have a gorgeous barn so this is where we did our photos. They turned out beautiful! Of course, we got rained on. Thankfully it was just for the drive from his parents to the venue. Once we arrived at the venue the clouds parted and the sun came out. Once we arrived we had an immediate family and bridal party dinner. Our wedding venue was very accommodating and flexible with allowing us to essentially flip the typical order of events for a wedding. We then had time to relax after dinner, take some more photos and touch-ups before the ceremony.

The sun was shining, there was a light breeze. It was a romantic, simple yet elegant ceremony. We had our family and friends give their blessing for us to be married. It takes a village and we certainly have a village behind us throughout all these years together. We wanted them to fully be a part of our ceremony too. After our ceremony we lead the way for our guests to congregate for a group shot which lead them right to the reception doors so they could find their seats, get a beverage, mix and mingle for a bit and so we could continue with the celebrations.
We also decided to cut out some of the traditional reception events. Cake cutting - both me and my husband don't like cake, same with a few in our immediate family and bridal party so we decided to have homemade tarts instead. Garter toss and bouquet toss... we decided to do away with that as well. We did, however, have the father-daughter, mother-son and bridal party dance as well as speeches. Of course, there was more tears and laughter throughout all of these. And during my parent's speech, my wonderful mother decided to serenade Bill and me with a song that she had been practicing on her guitar since the fall. We had no idea she was doing this. It was beautiful! She did an amazing job and it's a moment that we will forever hold in our hearts. The party then began! We celebrated with our family and friends until midnight - being 6 months pregnant, I'm surprised I made it until then! Our day was everything we could have ever wanted. I would relive it over and over every day if I could.
