West Coast Wedding Weekend !

If you are looking for a west-coast inspired, rustic wedding, look no further! Dragon's lodge is the most special venue. We had tofino on the brain originally, and spent a lot of time looking into venues that would bring us close to nature, and serve to host about 50 people for an intimate close family and friends semi-destination wedding. When we arrived in early June to scope out this venue, we instantly knew it was the one! Our wedding was very much DIY, and we hosted a couple group meals on Thursday/Friday, using the beautiful fully stocked kitchen and the patio facing the ocean! The big day was on Saturday, and everything went perfectly with the help of Tanya the building manager, who we also hired as our day of co-ordinator!

Just some helpful knowledge for future brides! I created a wedding website to keep people in the loop about details, as this was slightly more comprehensive planning than a usual one-day wedding. We did a big costco shop to stock up for snacks and breakfast items and provided a "nightly rate" to our guests because the lodge is a 4 - night site rental. We charged just enough per night to help balance out the cost of the rental and provided a continental breakfast. We only used about 8 cabins, as most of our guests weren't as adventurous as we predicted, but there was also one RV on site as well!
The lodge is on septic, and my maid of honor made an announcement early on, just to let people know to be gentle with water use. Tanya also provided lovely little makeup wipes in every room. And there were two filled filtered water jugs when we arrived. Heads up, the water is very salty on island because it was well-water.

Overall, this whole weekend was exactly as we imagined. My friends and family raved about the uniqueness and beauty of this site! It made our wedding very special.

Island Wedding of Our Dreams

A great experience for our wedding at Dragon's Lodge on Gabriola Island. Tanya, the house manager, was an amazing help. She was kind, flexible, and supportive through the pandemic planning of our wedding and we even hired her for the day of the wedding. She was a fabulous help! The venue itself has the most stunning view and is such a great property. Our friends absolutely loved the venue and the wedding.

Pros:
- The great room is fabulous for a small wedding
- The cost is very reasonable
- unique venue where you can support a small community
- great vendors available and familiar with this space
- the rental was a lot more flexible than MANY places have been for the pandemic
- The house manager is amazing (as mentioned above)
- no event fee
- the cost/view are unbeatable

Cons:

- The deck really needs to be redone, it is an eyesore and not in the best condition.
- some of the beds were a bit uncomfy
- The wifi was not working well the weekend we went, but I know they were actively trying to fix it (a small panic on my part to get the wedding playlist downloaded to a few phones because of this - not a big deal at all).
- the neighbor is not a fan of the noise from the house and noise tickets are common (we got one).
