Our dream wedding come true
The day we got engaged my fiancé (now husband) wanted to get married at the Thompson hotel. I had no idea where that was or what it looked like. We knew we always wanted something more intimate and different from all the other weddings we had been too. We visited the venue from the lobby being so modern and different, to the breath taking view of our beautiful city Toronto from their roof top patio and then to a beautiful modern and glamorous hall. We knew it was the perfect venue for us. We didn’t look anywhere else we were set with it from day one. Our 11 month planning was super easy with the coordinatior Lyndsey to her amazing crew helped us so much create our dream wedding. We stayed there the whole weekend and they treated us so well, they went above and beyond for everything for us. We had our amazing Ceremony on the roof top in front of an amazing skyline of Toronto. We then had cocktail hour on the roof top and then headed down to the hall for the reception. The reception was beautifully done with the decor we had, the food was 5 star and delicious and beautifully presented. We had great comments from all our guests that the food was different and delicious. The venue is perfect for amazing day and night photos of the skyline and theirs amazing spots all around the hotel for great photo ops. I highly recommend the Thompson hotel for anything, for staying the weekend and getting pampered to celebrating any occasion. Cool Venue, Great Food - Poor Service!
Hosted our wedding at the Thompson Toronto at the end of September 2017 – Had our ceremony & cocktail hour on the rooftop, dinner reception in the Wellington room. Had a great day, but the more we think back on the day, the more upset we become of our experience.
Upon arrival the night before, the front desk staff was unhelpful to assist/direct us & staff where we could unload and store items for the next day – it took a while to sort this. During the planning process, we were told we were going to be able to store items in the Wellington Room the night before the wedding, but they had booked an event that did not clear out of the room until a couple of hours before our ceremony – causing family members who were helping to set up the room to be delayed and miss family pictures, and just made it to the ceremony on time.
Due to the other event running late – the staff made the florist store our flowers in the kitchen upon delivery (at the Thompson staff request). The florist brought this to our attention as they were concerned.
During our first look in the lobby bar, the staff was extremely inconsiderate to our photographers and us, and could not give us a few moments of uninterrupted time in the space as they were in the background of a lot of our pictures. The construction crew that was working in the room was nice enough to work elsewhere for these few minutes during that time (don’t believe they were Thompson staff – people who were just working on a project in the hotel).
We had booked the theatre room for the evening (figured it would be a nice spot for nursing moms to disappear to). The staff fought with us saying we could not have access - they were finally corrected by the wedding coordinator late in the day.
As the entrance to the Wellington Room is across from a backdoor to the nightclub at the hotel, we were promised that there was to be a security guard at that door. We were told this was a common practice of the hotel to keep people from coming into the space we booked. Throughout the evening, there were people coming and going from that door and using the bathrooms that were designated for our wedding guests (which were left extremely messy due to the inconsiderate club-goers), and these people were helping themselves to the drinks being served by our third party coffee vendor that had a booth set up at the Wellington Room door. To top this off – one of these uninvited people ruined our guestbook canvas.
On a better note, the food was amazing, and our guests still talk about it to this day! We were very happy with the meals – the chef is great!
It was a little disappointing that the staff did not let anyone know that the late night snacks were served, so by the time our guests discovered it, everything was cold.
We brought up most of these issues (late access to the Wellington Room, club-goers in our space, writing on guest book) to the venue on the day, and in the days after the wedding via email, but received no follow up from anyone at the Thompson. Overall the day ran smoothly, and we had a great time, but remembering back on the details has us feeling very disappointed.
