Wedding officiant

Can I have a friend or family member to be an officiant in Canada? If so, what are the steps to be one and how much?

I had my aunt officiate our wedding. We're in Montreal. Basically filled out some forms for the Justice ministry to designate her for that 1 day. She didn't have to take a course. Just answer a few questions and fill out a few forms and respect some legal fomalities when conducting the ceremony. After the ceremony when we file the papers it cost us about 50$ in admin fees and another 35$ to have a copy of our marriage certificate delivered to us. I'd suggest you check out the Alberta justice ministry website for info.

Usually they have to take a course or something to make it legal. They can totally be your officiant but you have to have one who is certified in attendance to make it legal.
