We are having a small cake to cut, with a cupcake display. The cake will be set aside for the next day lunch to enjoy with family. There will be cupcakes for late snack with wings. Different-but will be yummy!!! I think a cake is great... but does not need to be expensive.

For us, having a small cutting cake was a must. Nothing crazy because the rest of the "cake" being served are cupcakes. I have read and been told by some relatives that the etiquette as far as when a guest could leave politely is after the cake cutting. Not that I am big on traditional etiquette, but it is interesting to know

We decided pretty quickly not to do a wedding by cake! When thinking about the cost and how much people don’t usually eat the wedding cake, we decided to just either save that money or put it towards something that is top priority on our list of “must haves”. My mom is upset about it, but we’re the ones paying for it.

Not a must for us, my FH and I aren't huge on cake. We've been looking into apple strudel and ice-cream, or ice-cream sandwiches to put on our dessert table.

It's not a must. I mean there are people who have cupcakes or donuts. We decided to get a cake because his family are huge dessert people and both of our families are large so we thought this would take up less room than a bunch of cupcakes.

Cake is a must. We are having a small elopement party and aren't having many traditional aspects, but no matter what I still wanted a cake (although I think it's just because I love cake) haha

I think we are going to have a black forest cake instead of a traditional fondant tier cake, but I haven't decided yet!

For me it's a must-do, only because it's the only time in my life I'll ever get to have a tier cake....or fondant....lol but lots of people are happy with other alternatives. I just love cake 😂

For us yes a cake is a must. I'm an Soo looking forward to a fluffy sweat buttercream frosting. Yummy.

I have been looking for a cake topper. I'd like something a little more unique.

Must do. This is one dessert that was served to just family as friends got a piece from the assorted pastry served with the chosen dessert plated.

The cake represented our dog Peanut present with us as the paws walked up the cake.

The cake is the whole inspiration for our wedding, it is the main focal point when you walk into the reception! The cake design was the first thing that was decided on, once that was picked out everything else fell into place!

Honestly, it's worth it since people don't have to wait for the actual cake to be cut (either by the venue or themselves).

Here's some photos of what our cake and cupcakes looked like:

I'm planning to do the same thing! Just a small 8 inch cake for us, and cupcakes for everyone else.

We had a small cake for cutting and cupcakes. The traditional 3 tiered wedding cake isn't a must-have, but I do want something sweet like cupcakes to enjoy as a guest. Having some sort of dessert is a must-have!!

We're going to have a small cutting cake and some cupcakes I think... unless we go with a cutting cake in the back... I was thinking of bunt cakes but it would take me an hour and a half right before the wedding to pick them up, not sure I want to use that time then for that.

It was necessary for us. We love cake and I wanted the traditional cutting/feeding photos. In reflection we ordered way too much. We were able to save our top tier for our anniversary and we have the whole bottom tier left. Husband loves having so much left over cake to eat though.

We only did a cake for photos. We didn't make a big deal out of cutting it, just a quick photo before we sat down for dinner and that was it. I ended up asking one of the servers to just pack it up and not cut it because we were serving dessert.

Exactly what Kelsie said! We almost didn't even bother at all, but FH's mom wants us to do it for the photos.

Not necessary! We aren’t even having people watch us cut the cake, it’s going to be private and just for photos.
