Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, a Sixpence in Your Shoe!

Kayla, on September 2, 2020 at 10:26 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 19

Hey Brides Smiley heart

Hope everyone is doing well through covid, be safe!

Just wanted to hear from brides on their ideas for each of the somethings, and if anyone is doing the sixpence/penny in the shoe?

At this point my items are:

Borrowed: My mom's wedding band

New: My wedding dress (gift from my parents)

Olde: My grandmothers wedding band + my grandfathers World War II pin

As for Blue... I'm going to see what my MIL wants to do but my Dad suggested: Blue Sapphire earrings which I love the idea of.

My Dad is going to get me a sixpence as well Smiley smile

If you're not familiar with the history behind it: The famous wedding recipe derives from the Old English rhyme, "Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe"

Our wedding didn't have anything of the tradition as everything has to be new. Borrowed, old and blue wouldn't match outfits unless the colour was there to match.

Unfortunately, we're not as close as an extended family unit - so it will all likely come from my mom Smiley smile I'll find something I'm sure.

Something old: I will be tying my Omas family ring and my Opas wedding band onto my bouquet.

    Something new: My wedding dress.

Something borrowed: My moms veil that she wore.

    Something blue: My garter.

My something old is a silk flower that was my grandmas, which I will be tying to my bouquet.

My something new is my dress and veil.

My something borrowed is my mom's pearl necklace and earring set.

My something blue is my garter.

I'm still sort of working on this one LOL.

    Something New: Dress and veil

Something Borrowed: My mom will likely let me borrow something...but what I have no idea!

Something Old: Again - no idea - my mom will probably give me something or I'll forgo this tradition.

Something Blue: I'll get a blue garter

Thank you!! They've been sitting in their boxes forever and I thought this would be a perfect time for them to come out! Of course I'll have to taken them to the jewelry store and get them cleaned.

Oh I'm sure my mother will be letting me borrow something for the big day!

That is absolutely beautiful Amanda!! If you have photos of the bracelet & necklace and want to share post a pic I'd love to see!!Smiley love

For the borrowed, if you want to go all superstitious (I'm not that type of person, but for once I'm going to be haha) make sure your borrowed is from a happily married couple Smiley laugh

    I love this topic!

Something New: My dress. My dress was also a gift from my parents!

Something Borrowed: Haven't figured that one out yet.

Something Old: My Baba's Diamond Bracelet and Diamond Necklace that she had given to me before she had pasted away a few years ago

    Something Blue: My garter
