Flip Out Or Forget It? - A cringey speech

Joey, on August 26, 2019 at 09:04 Posted in Wedding reception 0 19

Your speeches and toasts are underway, and someone who you invited to speak hits all the "bad wedding speech" faux pas - they tell racy stories, they make rude jokes, they go on and on and on... It's not good.

Flip Out! This speech is supposed to be supportive and loving, not a time to roast you or try out a stand-up comedy routine. This is not what you want your guests talking about after your wedding.

Forget It! You're sure they meant well. You asked them to give a speech because you love them, not because of their public speaking skills. If anyone should feel embarrassed, it's them, not you.

I hope this little game helped you laugh at some of the things that can go wrong on the wedding day. Think of it as practice for keeping some perspective just in case there are some hiccups! If you had fun, go back and check out Flip Out Or Forget It - part one, or restart at the beginning of part two.

Forget it. If it's already happening, there's nothing that can be done.

Most of my family and friends are not the greatest speeches, so I'm kind of expecting this...

Forget it. Most weddings I've been to have a cringey speech.

Honestly I would just have my mom or MOH escort them nicely away from the mic. No biggy. Everyone will have had a few drinks anyways.

    Flip out!

That is after the whole event and sit down with the individual to say what was wrong of their speech and not appreciating the stories/moments that were private mentioned. Their awareness of what they said personally about you and FH in ways they didn't realize did hurt them inside with the words spoken. It can make or break a friendship.

We had good speeches spoken by the MOHs and forget about my BM (Best Man) to say his speech and moved on to mine (spoke for husband too).

I don't see this happening for us but I think I'd flip out. They'd know they botched it.

Maybe flip out a little. Hopefully the few speeches we have will be quick and heartfelt.

Thankfully this will not be an issue at our wedding as the only speech being made will be myself and my fiancé thanking everyone. I went to a wedding where the MOH was hammered by the time she needed to speak, slurring words and rambling it was a disaster. After her speech no one saw her for the rest of the night apparently she passed out in the bridal suite.

Forget it. I'm not sure it won't be me with the horrible speech.... I only have to thank people but I'll be the most awkward person giving a speech.

Forget it - what's done is done! I'd flip out in my head but I'd try to keep a straight face at the time

I'd be mad and I am quite worried about this happening at our wedding, but I'd ultimately forget it because at the end of the day they are embarrassing themselves and it doesn't really reflect on you. I'm toying with the option of having the Oscar speech music play if someone is going long or getting cringy.

Forget it because it's been done! There's not much you can do. I hope we don't have any cringey speeches but you never know.

I plan on having a plan for this - having a cue for someone to step in if it starts going south. but really i don’t worry about this, so i would forget it

Forget it in the moment, then flip out later. I plan to have my MC cue into this, and if needed, cut the speeches off or something. Thinking of having the Academy Award music handy for this!

Forget it. Once it’s done there is nothing you can do. Depending on who it is I may flip out later. But in the moment just pretend it doesn’t bother me

I would try to forget it- I would be pretty upset in my head and if people saw my face I feel like they would realize if hurt. Which would cause them to look like a horrible person not me. I wouldn't try to stop it or anything because would make it worse.

Forget it... I would flip out in my head but I know I wouldn't try and stop them midway or anything. Just get embarrassed and blush until my face turns red and then laugh about it later! Makes for a good memory!
