My fiancé and I want To elope in Manitoba my question is. Can we elope and then have our wedding next year with a ceremony ? What would have to change in the ceremony so nobody finds out ? We just want something to ourselves and just want to be married. Any suggestions ?

    Well congrats on the engagement!!!

I'm not too familiar with what would have to be changed but I would assume that you would just ask the person officiating the ceremony to perform it as normal and just if anybody asks about the whole signing of papers - tell them you plan on doing that after the ceremony. That's how I'm signing our papers; we are getting married on a dock so I don't want any chance of the papers flying away into the water!

Other than that I would say you should be fine to be able to keep this to yourselves though.

    Hi Jess.

    Congratulations on your engagement!

What many couples do after their elopement is announcing to friends and family that they're married, and have a vow renewal/reception in the future to celebrate the union.

Sometimes after an elopement, friends and family are not too thrilled that a couple had a wedding without them. For this reason, I would exercise caution in keeping your marriage a secret and having a ceremony the following year without them knowing you are both already married. It could cause a lot of upset and tension.
