Doing or Ditching: The Garter Toss?

Lynnie, on April 1, 2019 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 55

Are you going to toss the garter at your wedding reception or did this tradition not make the cut? Are you doing or ditching the garter toss?

Ditching. Neither me or my FH are super comfortable with the idea (or like the family attending would be either...especially where there could be kids ranging for 2-12 years old).

Ditching. Don't care for it - and I felt so embarrassed when I needed ( and being called out) to participate in this at weddings. Don't want to subject the few single people in my guest list to it.

This might be how we approach it too. I have a tea length dress so if he goes into my dress I may be showing off way too much! I may just wear it low so he can just grab it with his hands but I also just may have it set aside for him, I'm sure the day of I'll make the decision lol

I agree with your opinion of ditching too!
But if it’s something your FH wants to do then, if you don’t already know, single is anyone not married. We had the same concern with our bouquet toss as most of our guests are in relationships/engaged but our DJ told us that anyone not officially married participates - which I think is still fun Smiley smile

We are doing the toss (I bought a second garter specifically for this) but we are not doing the hunt to go get it. We are both very uncomfortable with the idea of him having to climb under the dress. Not our cup of tea. So after I throw the bridal bouquet, we will hand him the garter and call up the men. Plus it saves time woohoo!

Ditching for sure. Our guest list is primarily family, and neither one of us feel comfortable having them watch him go up my dress.

My dress is also a weeeee bit tight to be doing that.

    No way!
This is also not a thing where we're from so Im not sure how half of our guests would take it, but my actual reason for not doing it is just that I'm absolutely not comfortable with it haha

Not sure yet! I’m kind of on the French but leaning more towards no because my family is way too conservative and will feel offended if we do it LOL. But FH wants to do so I might just say, LETS DO IT!

Ditching, my FMIL said she was going to make me a garter out of one of my FH's dad's ties, his dad recently passed away so it will just be for us and not to share.

I haven't decided quite yet.. I really want to keep my garter and I will probably feel super awkward having everyone watch us LOL

We are unsure of this one. Will leave it up to my FH. I am unsure how hes going to get up there to get it with my dress lol. But it is 100% his decision

I'm unsure. I think it may be a bit awkward, but i think I'll leave it up to whatever FH wants to do.
